2012 Silly Season Discussion

The "sliced bread" has been pretty stale thus far.

A good friend of mine that raced for a long time told me back then that the kid wasn't worthy of the sliced bread hype. He said he was solid but would be surprised if he ever won a title.

I think he stays. He is having a great year, and is "the" driver for Roush. I would still be a fan, but I wouldn't be too happy about it. Like you said, Ford is having a great year, it might be hard to move on.

Edwards is doing exactly what he should. He's milking this as long as possible to force Jack's hand for an even better extension.

Best thing since a 25-to-life Prison sentence maybe...

Dude is not even as competitive as he should be in NNS, let alone Cup racing.

Another case of pushing progression too fast. Most of his experience is in Legend cars.

I may be in the minority but I still think the top dog at Roush is Matt Kenseth.

I don't think you are in the majority. Matt has been there the longest, but to me top dog means having best results, and that has to be Edwards.

Reports are starting to leak out about Red Bull Racing leaving Nascar in 2012.

Considering the amount of money spent vs results, I cannot blame them. Perhaps the lack of improvement with a proven driver in KK has prompted this decision if true.

That is going to leave a lot of people out of a job. I really feel for Vickers & Whitt as well, hopefully they find a ride. Also it sucks even worse because we lose two completely funded teams and semi-competitive cars, this move just adds two more S&P operations to the field next year. Question, are they just leaving the ownership side or all together? Hopefully they'll stick around just as a sponsor.

Jay Frye is a smart guy. He has a couple of different options to go with this.

I just saw that Jay Frye is looking for investors to buy into TBR, do you know who has had a past relationship with Frye? Mark Martin.

Perhaps Martin & Frye buy the operation and move it to the Chevy camp and aligns with HMS? That solves the question of where MM would land and it would keep him in the HMS camp and in the sport for a long time as owner. Just something I cooked up in my head.

Mark Martin was certainly one of the scenarios that popped in my head first.

I'd rather see MM in an ownership role. Though I could see Turner Motorsports looking into buying the team. They get a Cup program already up and running and one that has two cars locked into the show. They could sign Mark to fill one seat and either sell the other points or keep them for someone else. Also if Turner bought TBR that would solve where Justin Allgaier would land when he is ready for Cup. Also Turner could take over Cole Whitt's development as well.

That would be a great deal for Steve. However, I'm not so sure Allgaier can sell sponsorship for a cup ride. I could see Red Bull staying on in a sponsorship position and bringing Whitt up to cup in the second car. I don't think it would be the smart thing to do, but it's possible.

I have to think if MM were interested in team ownership, he would already have made the move. He just doesn't strike me as one who wants to be involved as an owner, but if he were given an offer like Tony Stewart received where no money was required, who knows?

Don't want to start a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend rumor. Not sure where the guy heard this but he claims that Zippy is not happy working with Logano. He said that he could be looking to leave JGR and teaming up with Stewart again. But Stewart and Grubb both seem pretty happy working together. Again, don't want to jump the gun. just throwing out what I was told yesterday. I figure if something like this was really going on behind the scenes that word would be out by now.

It is out. The media has questioned Zippy about it but he has denied the rumors.

I wonder how much moving will actually take place. Edwards, Bowyer, and Vickers could all be in new rides. Prob more I'm missing. Just haven't followed it as close this year.

Bowyer, from all accounts, was ready to accept an offer to replace Kasey at Red Bull before the news broke.

I agree. I think he is top driver in both series for Roush.

No offense, but what person that cares about bettering their career would want to work with Logano. He is a weird awkward looking dude, that looks uncomfortable in his own skin. And to top it off, he is not a very good racer at all. He is barely competitive in NNS.
