I agree. We can't afford for Golden to have mental lapses and off nights every time we take the court. However, having really good talent everywhere else will make his off nights less glaring. He needs to realize when he is having a bad shooting night early, and work on facilitating the other four positions in those cases.

This. The talent and experience on next year's team could potentially be enough to overcome Golden's inconsistencies on SOME nights (not all). If he sucks all year, it might be rough. But I doubt that'll happen. While we'll still need him to play well, that need won't be quite so dire as it was this year.

Golden was way more inconsistent this year, especially the middle part of the season. I know he had injury problems but it seemed like something else was going on as well. Regardless, I think he'll have alot less pressure on him next year and hopefully he can be consistently solid.

Hopefully we can land Thompson so 1. It pushes golden 2. We have a viable option at backup 3. Can put 2 ball handlers on the floor at times

You think Thompson starts if we land him? Would be awesome having Richardson and Hubbs off the bench. Depth.

It'd certainly be nice to have a backup, if it's Landry or Thompson. It was absolutely pathetic watching us try to get across halfcourt when we were without Golden. We didn't have anyone behind him this year.

I haven't seen Hubbs play, but from reading this board and recruiting sites/articles I've safely gathered that he's supposed to be pretty good.

I know he's not a PG. And no, there is no one to replace Golden. I'm denying none of that. But you said guard play, so I named guards.

And like I said, Golden will be a senior. It's time he stepped up and showed some consistency. It's not like he sucks. He's inconsistent, not ****ty. There's a difference. We had a solid year with him pulling a Jekyll/Hyde on us all season.

Crucify me if you want, call me a sunshine pumper or whatever, but I'm putting my faith in Trae next year to pull through for us.

Golden plays zero defense. Tends to hang his head when he is not scoring or shooting well. Not what you need from your QB/ PG to play championship ball.

Heard today that Hubbs does not play with a lot of " energy". Sounds like Hopson or Yarborough. Not sure that's what we need on this team. Hope I'm wrong but I'm tired go getting positive about "next year" every season only to be let down when next season gets here.

I'd love to know where you heard that.

You hear one thing and suddenly he's Scotty Hopson and has no energy, and he's not what we need on the team.

Seems to me you might a bit too easily influenced by what you hear. I don't know much about Hubbs, but I somehow doubt that. And saying we don't need him, well that's just more ridiculous.

It was on the Tony Basillio show in Knoxville. Hubbs apparently played really poorly in the State Tournament last week and a person that was there said he did not play with a lot of energy. So, there you go.

Lmao he played really poorly? Dropped 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the semi's, if that's playing poorly I'll take it.

He did struggle in the final but that was simply because he was getting double and triple teamed by a 6'9" guy and nobody on DC was providing any help.

I saw Thompson at the state tournament and was underwhelmed. He is very thin and will need to put on some weight and strength if he expects to play in the SEC. He has big feet and does not appear to be quick enough to play PG in D1 basketball. His team lost to an atheletically inferior team and Thompson never took control of the game when it began slipping away late. But, I figure his skills show up better when he is playing with and against better players (AAU and hopefully college).

From what I saw of Hubbs at the tournament, he has the skills to play but looks like every other guard, UT has. Long, lean, quick, strong but not a great outside shooter. He will help immediately but will not be a game changer in the first year.

I hope people read and fully understand your last sentence. Otherwise, we will be wading through "Bigger bust..." & "Overhyped" threads all winter again.

Alas, I know better, and we will be wading through that crap anyhow.

I heard talk up in DC that Georgetown and UT were going to play next year. Granted that was just idle radio chatter. Guess not?

I like the Atlantis field. I see some drool-worthy match ups in the making...

when i stated hubbs needs to add muscle in the Hubbs thread i was basically told his body is ready for the next level.

If you think Hubbs and Thompson have similar bodies then either A. You're blind B. You've never seen both C. You're trolling

Take your pick...

I think that's a pretty cool idea. In Philadelphia they have the Philadelphia Big 5. I know that's one city but it would be cool to have UT, Vandy, Memphis, UTC, Belmont, & MTSU play a round robin type event.

I was at the games when Memphis played MTSU and we played Western Kentucky in a doubleheader in Nashville. Great idea.

Dyer just didn't have the overall muscle that Southwind did. Hubbs was pretty much that whole team when they played anyone good. They (Southwind) could afford to double him.

Bingo. Southwind has 3 guys signed with D1 schools, that was a very well rounded team.
