2013-14 Schedule

I'd love to hand Wiggins his first loss of the season with Kansas. We're very capable of doing that.

Is next years team better with Barton or Golden at point guard in your opinion?

It's a question I've really thought a lot about lately for obvious reasons...

I don't know anything about Barton but I'll give my take.

The only question mark I had for next season was Trae Golden. I kept imagining us making it to the tournament and him throwing up an absolute stinker in round 1 that cost us the game.

If we are able to find someone that can dribble well enough to bring the ball across mid court and half way play D I think there's a good chance we are better off.

If Trae had a perimeter shot I'd prefer him.
Just my opinion but I think we'd see fewer defenses sagging on J&J with Barton and McRae in the mix.
I think we'd be better with Barton just because he's been so consistent from the 3. Something we've lacked.
And he's a good enough ball handler to fill the pos.

PS: He's experienced at playing up tempo.
Memphis 71 ppg
TN 65.9 ppg
We picked it up last 10 games of the season. Like to see that continue.

This is how I feel as well. The biggest thing we need in our PG is perimeter shooting, ball handling, and defense. From everything I've seen and heard, Barton is clearly better in 2/3 areas, and as good if not better as a ball handler. It will be really hard to get away with doubling Jarnell or jeronne IMO, you double with a big and those 2 pass we'll between each other...you drop in a guard and now we have legitimate weapons on the perimeter.

I'd agree, while I think Golden has the potential to have a few big point games more so than Barton, I think Golden also holds a lot more responsibility in costing us a game. Barton being a good 3 point shooter and handler is really the main strengths we need at pg for this team and he provides that. Next season would show that Golden really is a more of a 2 guard than any other so far in my opinion.

While I do like Golden, he was by far my main concern about next season, especially when talking about tourny play.

Tennessee has added a home and home with North Carolina state starting next year. Next years game will be played in TBA, 2 year contract.

schedule update: As the news sentinel reported friday, ut and n.c. State agreed to a two-year, home-and-home series beginning in 2013-14 at thompson-boling arena. An official contract is in the works.

Other confirmed games include home dates against virginia, tennessee state, tennessee tech, usc-upstate and the citadel, a game connected to the vols’ participation in the battle 4 atlantis in the bahamas. Ut’s road games include xavier and wichita state.

One additional non-conference game remains undecided.

Tennessee will be joined at the battle 4 atlantis by kansas, iowa, southern cal, utep, villanova, wake forest and xavier. The bracket has yet to be finalized.

The vols also will play two preseason exhibitions. Martin said one will be open to the public at thompson-boling arena against a non-division i team and the other will be a closed-door scrimmage against another d1 team. Martin is looking to schedule a true road game for the latter.

So it looks like OOC will be:

HOME
NC State
Virginia
Tennessee Tech
Tennessee State
USC-Upstate
Citadel

ROAD
Xavier
Wichita State

NEUTRAL
Battle for Atlantis (3 games)

That's 11 games, says we have one more non conference to add, I would think it'd be a home game since it still isn't finalized, so 12 OOC and then 18 game SEC schedule.

I'm gonna say we go no worse than 9-3 OOC.

Not much to see as far as competition in TBA this year. No room for error at all. We should win all home games, IMO. Virginia should be an NCAA team, but other than that, nothing comes close. We have them at home, so I like our chances. Xavier and Wichita State already become must wins on the road, but games we should win.

IMO the only loses we see OOC comes from the BFA, unless we add another decent opponent. We need a very good showing in the tourney in case we slip up against Xavier or Wichita State later in the schedule. Getting to the championship game and playing KS (probably lose), beating Virginia, and no worse than splitting with Xavier and Witchita State will be a decent start to the year.

With Witchy losing both of their front court gems and their pg, I might be singing Dejavue, if we lose to them even on the road.

Yeah, I'm not too high on them this year either. ESPN has them ranked pretty high, so I'm giving them the benifit of the doubt that they wee something that I don't. Hopefully, they will be an NCAA team, but being from a mid major, sometimes it's all or nothing depending if they win their conf. tourney.

We could almost guarantee a post season seed by winning a couple of the tough OOC games on the road.
If Martin is true to form ,this his third here, will be his best road season.

A good showing at the Atlantis and beat Virginia at home and split with Witchita / Xavier and we will not have to have to win 9 out of last 10 SEC games. Should put us in good shape. Virginia will be top 4 in ACC this year. That will be a HUGE win for us in the long run. I'd like to have the Xavier win. They seem to always find their way in the tourney.

Then we could just easily punch our ticket by upsetting a young KS team. OSU came out of no where last year. Who says we can't this year.

Without seeing the conference schedule I think 23-8(13-5) seems pretty reasonable.

If we draw Kentucky and Florida only once each I may say 24 or 25 wins, but hard to predict without seeing the conference schedule.

I'll be shocked if we don't get FL twice. KY can only be once. Probably at Rupp if I was betting.
