2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

Isn't that guy a huge Memphis fan?

It didnt matter with stokes, and that's the point MC was getting at I believe. Supposedly Sarwar and CCM and the staff really hit it off and that helped in jarnells decision. So the fact that he's also the trainer for Nichols doesn't hurt.

Stokes doing some recruiting today???

Made the trip to Arkansas today to see Nichols and Hubbs M33M team win the real deal in the rock AAU championship.

“@a_nichols33: @JarnellStokes thanks for watching us today, good to see u bro, keep representing!!”

This recruitment is getting tougher by the day.
Just confirmation CM's recruiting the right guys. I'm glad to see Tennessee competing for Duke type kids. Sure, you don't get many, but all you have to do is get one or two to kick start things.

No doubt, but it is disheartening to have to compete with schools like Duke for these kids when they offer last minute after we have invested years in them.

Bingo. Losing hubbs to duke on an offer a month or 2 before his decision when we offered over a year ago is definitely disheartening.

Once again, I won't blame the kids, and definitely understand why you'd pick duke, but that doesn't make it any easier.

On UNC offer:

“There were no words to explain it,” the 6-foot-9, 210-pound post prospect said. “It’s a dream come true pretty much. Duke offered me last week. That was special and now this week it's North Carolina.”

Sound familiar? He said the same thing, "dream", about the duke offer and people were trying to spin it that it was his dream school. He's clarified, and as i said, it's a dream offer in the sense that those are elite schools to be getting that attention is a dream, not necessarily a dream school.

On timetable of decision:

“It’s awesome,” he said of the process. “I can tell everybody that I’m neutral. I’ll probably make a list of six or seven towards the end of the summer. I don’t know who will be on it yet.”

He originally was going to commit prior to senior season beginning, but it sounds like hell probably take a bit longer than that. I don't necessarily think that that helps/hurts UT's chances either way, would've preferred he gone ahead and committed to UT though haha.

Sarwar isn't a "trainer." He's a restaurant cook and agent wannabe. There's a reason Memphis and Arkansas ran when he got involved in the Stokes recruitment.

He was stokes trainer and is also nichols trainer. If he has another job ok, but he's the trainer for both.

Arkansas ran? Bahahaha that's funny. It's an easy decision to "run" when you're no longer being considered.

He met Jarnell Stokes less than a year ago. Amazing how 30-somethings with no experience training basketball players become friends with teenagers, who happen to be highly-ranked potential pros.

Do some research on sarwar, not the first time he's been in a gym. Also, Nichols family isn't the type to get him mixed up with that. They have plenty of money, doubt they need sarwars "help". This isn't WWW were talking about.

Hilarious the crap butt hurt fans come up with to explain losing a top recruit.

I know Tony very well, known him for years. Working out doesn't make you a trainer. He's never been involved in basketball at any level - ever - until he saw the dollar signs.

Sarwar graduated from Memphis and was a Sig Ep if I remember correctly. I use the word "trainer" for the guy simply because that's what he calls himself. I don't know too much about the relationship between Sarwar and his trainees, but Sarwar was the one who came to Knoxville with Stokes right after Stokes committed and did a bunch of radio interviews with him.

I can't cast stones because Memphis has worked with "handlers" to get kids before, but the process makes my skin crawl none-the-less.

Ok so even if he saw dollar signs...is there really something wrong with say sarwar saying hey jarnell I'll train you for free if you make the league you can repay me? I highly doubt he trained him for free anyways, and Nichols has money so once again doubt it's for free. He's from Memphis so it's not like he's pushing kids to certain schools and getting money from a third source.

Basically what you're accusing him of is that he sees good money in becoming a trainer for elite athletes. Is there something wrong with that?

I see nothing that you've said that would remotely resemble wrongdoing in the NCAAs eyes. What is it exactly that you're suggesting he has done which is sketchy?

We don't really know WHAT Sarwar is doing, or if he has Stokes/Nichols' best interests at heart, or how/if he is being compensated for his training.

I think that's all Humdinger is getting at.

Just a thought. Stokes and Nichols could see him as a positive influence on their ability to get stronger. So, Sarwar could be viewed by them as a trainer in that sense as opposed to the basketball sense. He doesn't really need a basketball background to help them improve their strength, which is something Nichols really needs.
