2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

I thought I had posted it in here, but don't see it.

The Amile Jefferson committment to duke could benefit UT in the recruitment of Nichols. Play a similar style, and position and it's doubtful that Jefferson goes pro after only one year.

So hopefully playing time is a factor in Nichols decision, because if it is, hell be seeing much more playing time immediately than he would at duke.

with their recent signing, think duke will go cool on nickels?

I don't think there's a chance they'd cool on him. Nichols is a 4-year type player that I'm sure they'd like to have long-term to develop. Duke's also the type of program that has the type of talent that can declare early for the draft. I'm sure Coach K would like to have him in the fold in case that happens. The hope is Nichols will cool on Duke in regards to PT which, in turn, is something we can offer plenty of.

i dont know, it would be pretty hard to cool on duke if it were me. however, if k runs short on scolly's who knows.
i do remember when ut offered cj black and a hayes kid from alabama. the offer was to the first to commit, the hayes kid had just got in knoxville and found out cj committed. he promptly turned around and went home, signed with bama. both guys played significant roles for 4 years i think.

May already be known by some, but I hadn't heard it...

Nichols sister will be attending the University of Tennessee next year as a freshman. Can't be bad news that his sister will be here, and they supposedly are close. Whole family is close and the fact both kids would be at UT is definitely convenient for the family.

Nichols is nowhere near a lock to Duke like they believe, same goes with Hubbs. Landing Stokes last year will pay huge dividends in the long run. Hopefully the days of the "blue blood" schools waltzing into Tennessee and cherry picking elite talent are coming to an end, or atleast much tougher than years past.
If Martin can land those two, could be something special for Tennessee in the near future. Stokes loves the college life and many people will not be surprised if he stays here atleast into his jr year.

glad to hear you reiterate that skeeter as i value your opinion more than most. you pretty much reiterated my opinion as well, i dont think those guys are "blue blood" locks for a few various reason. also, as you mentioned about stokes, he loves the college life and nichols and stokes are good friends and would love to play together. i feel like if we land nichols the chances stokes stays for his junior year sky rockets to near 100%. the thought of being able to pull nichols and hubbs, plus possibly crawford out of memphis would DEFINITELY be a huge accomplishment for CCM and the program. If we were able to couple that with success, and hopefully memphis failure, we could see a pipeline right into memphis being formed.

in any regard, a class headlined by nichols, hubbs and crawford is definitely an exciting thing to think about.

Nichols also looks like a Tennessee player, he would fit in really well in our offense, plus we have is best friend Stokes.

“@scoutsfocus: Austin Nichols father Mark said Florida, UVA, Memphis, TN, KU, Ohio St, UNC & Missouri are pushing the hardest for his son.”

If this is accurate I am feeling even better about our chances. I felt it was between duke and Tennessee as of recently, so if this is his current list of schools on him hardest I feel even better about Nichols becoming a Vol.

Kansas, Ohio State, and UNC don't worry you?

No not when everything is considered. It has long been said its a 3 team race between Florida, Tennessee and Duke, with Tennessee an Duke out ahead. While those other schools could jump in, the thought has been duke and Tennessee for awhile, and as I said Florida third.

So to hear Tennessee, along with other schools, is recruiting him harder than duke is a good sign IMO.
