2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

In some respects, Austin Nichols (Collierville, Tenn./Briarcrest) reminds me of Grant Jerrett. You can see him improving as the strength comes. He’s as good an inside player in terms of moves and creativity in the class. He was outstanding in Vegas.

Per ESPN's Dave Telep ("What I Learned in Las Vegas")

I am starting to think Austin is a little underrated on the recruiting trail. You would think his athleticism, wingspan, and ability to score in the post would make him a 5*.

JoelFranESPN Joel FranciscoIf Austin Nichols isn't a McDonald's All-American....they might as well shut the game down..#Fab48

RyanJamesMN Ryan JamesAustin Nichols runs the floor so well at his size. Making plays on the move in the open floor that most 6-9 kids cant.

Love these two comments......

kid's hands are ridiculous. I've been saying that for awhile. Just get it in his direction when he's running the floor and he can snag it and finish.

I think I'm more excited about the possibilities of landing Hubbs and Nichols than I was Tobias Harris. This kid is going to be special!!

Seems like he might be 6'9 now then.

I consider, with his skill set, Nichols a five star. Call me biased, but I think he's worth it.

It'd be nice for him to be big enough to guard opposing C, that would really be a nice addition.

He's too thin at this time to guard opposing centers, though he could run them to death and get easy buckets if it's a bigger player that is little threat on the offensive end.

Have you saw him recently out of curiousty? Some were saying he's up to 225, which would be a significant gain. I've always thought he was too skinny, but if hes 225 now I'd feel a little better.

Just thought I would jump in again. I am still going to say it will be Duke. Nichols entire family is totally Big Orange in all sports. I vaguely know some of them, but I don't have a any inside info except the fact that Austin does not like the makeup of the players on the UT team.

Maybe the family ties can eventually pull him to UT but I think it will be hard to do. I absolutely hope they can do it!:pepper::pepper::pepper:

I smell Diesel.

He's long and pretty thin legs, so the base needed to stay low on the post isn't there yet. He'd get pushed around at the 5 on D.

I went to see Nichols play 4 times last year, since Briarcrest is less than 10 minutes from where I live. He's the real deal.

Isn't he basically playing center for his AAU squad? Does he get pushed around there?

They have Sam Edwards, a plus 7 footer, and skal who may be close to 7' now.

Not saying Nichols doesn't play C, but there's a good chance one of those guys does.

aau is still jrs in HS and there are no 21 and 22 yr olds that have been in a college weight program for 3-4 years.

True but there aren't really a bunch of 21-22 yr old legit centers tearing it up on college anymore these days either. Center is a dying position in basketball in general. If Nichols can hold his own at the U18 try outs he should do fine
