If we're "not good" at football and women's basketball, then what is Memphis in those sports? Memphis is only good at one thing, and they struggle mightily to beat Tennessee in it.

The Memphis fan is talking up the Big East, but the fact is he'd leave it for any other "BCS" league if he could. He said they're playing at a higher level for men's hoops than Tennessee. Yet, Memphis would be completely nuts to turn down an offer from the SEC.

I know what you mean man. Just the thought of the Big 12 or SEC offering Memphis made me chuckle. You are right they would leave in a heartbeat, but realistically they know that'll never happen. If it ever gets to 4 major power conferences, Memphis will be one of those teams left out in the cold.

For starter, since you singled me out and said i don't know Austin...figured you'd like to know he texted me as he walked out of FedEx forum last night to talk. I was in bed so I missed the text, but figured you'd like to know that, since you seem to think I don't know or talk to him.

Also, you're going on about how well never have as many fans as you all had tonight? Another clueless statement. FedEx forum holds 18k, I heard attendance was around 14k....guess what our AVERAGE attendance was last year...just about what your buildings CAPACITY is. And yes our average attendance was higher than yours, so don't bother looking it up.

As for the big east, that's no longer the premier conference my friend, sorry to burst your bubble. Definitely a step up from the church league you're currently in, but definitely not the best basketball conference anymore.

Now my biggest issue...and this is most memphis fans...what the **** makes you think you're such a better basketball school. You talk down to us in basketball, and say oh you may have football and women's basketball, but men's basketball, we are elite..mind backing that up with numbers? Our attendance is better than yours, we have a winning record against you, we actually own our own NBA level arena not lease it, our practice facilities are better...we have been to sweet 16's, we've made the elite 8.....so what is it that makes Memphis basketball such a premier program compared to Tennessee? You act as though you're Kentucky or Duke, I have news for you, you're not.

Well I was successfully blocked on the memphistigers.org site just with one comment about them boasting up them leavin the cusa to a ECU fan like his team was so horrible in football now because they are in cusa and memphis is now goin to big east. They are block happy.

These are all facts BTO points out. I've lived in other parts of the country and I will tell you no one outside of Memphis knows or cares about Memphis Basketball. But they know who Tennessee is. Memphis basketball is not that big outside of Memphis it just isn't. And its not taken as relevant on the East or West Coasts. Go Vols!

In the 70s Memphis went to the Nat'l title game and played UCLA in 72. But the world knew far more Nationally about Ernie and Bernie than they ever did Memphis. This surprised me actually. And recently Memphis finally got some National pub because of Calipari and the rivalry with Tennessee. But Calipari is gone and dumbass Memphis cancelled the series with Tennessee and both of these things hurt Memphis nationally. Thats why it was such a dumb move to cancel the series with Tennessee. In Conf USA Houston (which I don't believe is in Conf USA anymore) was known much more Nationally than Memphis ever thought about. And in the Big East I can assure all Memphis fans that Nationally Memphis will never be known like Georgetown, St. Johns, Cincinnati Louisville Marquette or even Providence is. I don't know they might be as known as Providence but its close. Hell Temple is more known nationally than Memphis. Another thing that hurts Memphis nationally is the ****ty football program they have. Obviously having a pathetic football program marks Memphis right off the bat as a joke in sports.

I mean think about it just yesterday the Vols got more pub nationally because of Calipari's glowing comments of the Vols BBall team than Memphis got for their little practice last nite which got marred by gang riots!!! Thats what I mean by National perception there is no contest.

Its not going to be when Syracuse and Pitt bolt for the ACC. I think that is what everyone is trying to point out. You just can't count on Georgetown, UCONN (without Calhoun) Marquette, Memphis (with Pastner) and Providence being able to help the Big East be better than the SEC. Louisville is the big name there and I am sure they will bolt for greener pastures as well. So no the SEC is the better basketball conference easy than the Big East with all of that looming.

Canceling the series with Tennessee, while disappointing, does not hurt Memphis nationally.
