2013 recruiting class....

Our current terrible ranking is almost entirely due to having only 15 commits right now. Even filling our remaining spots with mediocre talent will have us a much more reasonable ranking. I think we will do much better than that and land a few big recruits and finish in the 10-20 range. Calm down and breathe.

Ppl can't comprehend this for some reason.. I guess it's just a knee jerk reaction.

butch jones has guys looking at us that would never even talk to dooley so take it easy way too early for this...if we can close strong i see a possible top 15 class

When Dooley took over Kiffin had a top 10 class put together. Jones is taking over and the class isnt even ranked in the top 30

and we all know how that highly related Kiffin recruits turned out for us don't we??

Sugar coat it all you want, Jones has his work cut out for him. Drink the Jones-aid and be happy it's a new day at UT. But once it gets serious and the recruits make their decisions, don't start the excuse making when it is not as good as you predict now. It will not be Jones' fault. Hart and Cheek made the program's bed first when they tried to make it work with Dools last season and it failed miserably; then by botching the search. Jones is walking into a mess. So if he pulls out a 5.6-5.7 average for all recruits he has done as well as could be expected. That's a mid-high 3 for you star watchers.

And based on Rivals ratings and recruiting classes over the past half dozen years that gets you a 7-12 season W/L finish in the SEC if it continues past one class. So we will learn what the best staff in America can do by early February 2014. Can they get more from less on the field and capitalize on it with the next class, or will it be Dools version 2.0?

Keeping it real.

Remember how in shambles the class was when Kiffin left? Dooley worked a bit of magic in the short time he had. Expect CBJ to do the same and finish top 15. Relax we got a while before NSD.

Wait, you mean the top 15 class that had a bunch of EE guys? Yeah, that class was in shambles.

IMHO Butch will do fine. I can't remember a headcoach that has hit the ground running like him. Man, this cat is pure adrenaline. I think it bodes well for upcoming recruiting class...but, as usual, we'll see on signing day.
GO VOLS!

FYI, All new HC's hit the ground running! See Dooley, Kiffen and the many other programs that just hired new coaches. "Hitting the ground running" is a requirement in being a new HC, not an option!

There's another difference between Kiffin's 09 class and this class. Kiffin's departure was a surprise and sudden. Dooley's situation has been going on long enough to effect recruit decisions about visits and "lists" for months.

Dooley walked into a tough situation because of time and the state of the roster at the time following 3 consecutive whole class recruiting busts. Jones' problem is different. Interest is low because Dooley's problems and eventual firing played out over such a long period. Fortunately, he starts with a much better roster than Dooley did.

Agree, but the kids were commited to Tennessee and Dooley did a solid job of keeping them. Dooley didnt set Butch up with that situation.

Hunter did not consider U.T. from a serious standpoint until Dooley came. So. Dooley pulled him in.

Stone did not like Kiffin and was probably headed to "O Bama" so Dooley did some magic and got Stone on campus....

Not everyone was committed to U.T. when Dooley got there.

Dooley was lucky Kiffin had identified and got in on so many kids. And its "Bama" Obama is the President.

THere was a bunch of EE guys I believe what 8 or so? But there was also mass attrition and a lot of fighting by Dooley to keep it together. In hindsight now it was not all that great on the defensive side anyway.

You're right to point out that Dooley had some recruiting successes of his own in the first few years. It's not necessary to 'trash' all things Dooley. For me, his unraveling started in earnest after the Kentucky loss. From that point forward, the Vols were in a downward spiral. I place most of the blame here on Dooley's inexperience.

I'd like to see CBJ make some contact with the Berry Twins soon.

Are we just in love with the Berry twins because of their dad and Eric? They don't seem to be rated very high. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see them in orange, I just wonder if we're making a bigger deal out of them because of their family.

I do not think our recruiting will be great this year because of the late start, but I think it will be really good the next few years!

I think the new guys will turn in a respectable scorecard when all is said and done.

But, even if the class doesn't come through, it is the price of doing business. The problems of having a bad coaching run don't just go away when you walk the guy out the door. It takes a while for the scars to fade.

Agree that we will take a little hit due to the change, but Butch seems to be in overdrive trying to make up for lost ground. We'll get a good class when it's all said and done, with more eyes looking our way in 14 after CBJ's staff has a year under their belt.

Anyone else worried this is going to be the worst recruiting class in Tennessee history? Tennessee is not even close to being in the top 25 on anyone's board.

Dooley's inability/lack of effort on recruiting is going to hurt Butch Jones. Hopefully he can work a little magic and close strong.

Not worried about projections. Rate the class after the '13 season instead of before.

You actually said Jones-aid?
Did someone pour Texas Pete on your vagigi this morning? Don't be such a Debbie (douchbag) Downer.

Love the idea had same thought myself. Would be fun to see someone break down our last 4 recruiting years by each player and what they accomplished!

Yeah that would be great. I'll tinker around with the idea time permitting. I feel the same about pre-season rankings.

We got some players out there that were in on that could turn this class around in a hurry.
