Is this where we post that the next guy should be fired, too? I mean, if we can fire Butch three years from now without having played a single game under him.....
i don't mean to speak for sjt18, but i think i know where he is coming from. so, i will make this post and he can correct me if i am wrong. but, i think this is what sjt18 is thinking....
butch jones has to have a good season to build momentum for the program. if he doesn't, the recruiting won't be upgraded and he will lose his whole offensive line in 2014. because of recent recruiting efforts and the loss of the offensive line, 2014 won't be promising either. if that happens, it will be near impossible for butch to get the program to take off and people will turn on him. when people turn on him, he'll be done.
now, it's hard to forcast out that far. however, i do believe it's going to take a while to turn this thing around. so, if people are not willing to give butch time, the cycle may repeat itself.
however, i believe the main difference will be that butch will not be in year 3 where he will be in year 1 and people will have more confidence in staying the course
8-4.... UT has the right coach
6-6.... Hart needs to work on a list to replace Jones as early as after the '14 season but no later than the '15 season.
UT has 17 or more Sr's in the two deep plus 2 or 3 JR's who could leave early. I am not blaming Jones or faulting his efforts but the '13 recruiting class does little to plug all of those holes. As thin as LB is this year, it will likely be much worse in '14. All 5 starters may be gone from the OL.
What I am saying is that if Jones' coaching ability only gets UT to 6-6 this year then it will be worse in '14. That could get him canned by itself... or it could just mean that he would need a miracle and coaching lessons to have a chance to save himself in '15.... with a still young team.
IMO, he MUST prove he can coach THIS year by beating someone he should not beat.
I like the way the schedule is setup next year. After two pre-season scrimmages, Oregon is a great test to see where the Vols are before hitting the swamp. Then, another prep game before the GA and USC games, which I think we will win one of those at home. In addition, there is a bye week after the GA game.
I think 7-5 should be expected!! Go Vols lol:
