I know it hurt not getting Looney, but it's not from lack of effort from Coach Martin. A lot of people are asking who is our fall back plan? Well there isn't one. We will only technically have 4 scholarships available next year, possibility 5 depending on Stokes. So IMO CCM is going to wait and see what happens with Stokes in the spring and then reevaluate some players. Might go the JUCO route for another big.

Martin was left with a bare roster. Yes he was left with Golden, Maymon, and McRae, but they were extremely raw. Martin knows how to build a roster, if you don't believe me look at the roster this year. He is responsible for getting every player on our team except McRae and Maymon, but IMO developed them into the players they are today.

Will we be primed up for a championship next year? No, but it will be a solid team that should still be in the top 25. I think Darius, Hubbs and AJ are going to develop nice this year and will be ready for huge impacts next year. We will have Richardson as our leader. Hubbs as our leading scorer and playmaker and for once have TWO true point guards on our roster (Thompson/Austin). We will be young in the post with AJ, Cofer, And Turman so I think that will be our biggest question mark. Can Reese and Q step up and become SEC caliber players or will they ride the bench or walk away? Will Moore develop a shot to go along with his amazing athleticism? A lot of questions to be answered, but I don't think we should all be in full panic mode.

Thompson/Austin
Hubbs/Cornish
Richardson/Moore
Davis/Cofer
Pops/Turman

Q/Reese? Will they step up and fit into the rotation?

I'm gonna go ahead and get my " Austin to Cofer for the dunk" tee shirt made. That should be a fun duo for a few years.

Reese will be solid, Moore will be great if he keeps working hard. I just don't know how hard Moore works in the gym; he needs to improve his shot and handling to become a great player.

Reese will leave after this year. IMO

Lol Big Reese fan is he? I just don't see where he could possibly get minutes. He seems like a good kid, but bad lateral quickness to play d and a slow release doesn't help his case. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I'm with ya. He's been beat out by a freshman so far this year in AJ Davis, if he can't beat out a freshman what the heck makes anyone think he's randomly gonna become a stud that we can't keep off the court?

Sorry just don't see Reese beating out AJ or Cofer for minutes. I'll eat the crow if he develops into a nice player.

Sure wish Conzo could recruit like Butch. We should get into the sweet 16 this year or it will be a big disappointment for me.

How many schollies will we have for the 2015 class? Who are we after? I thought BTO made a big board for it?

I wish CCM had the tradition to sell to recruits. If you think that didn't help UCLA land Looney, I have a golfball that NEVER slices that I will sell you.

Um - not so fast my friends - we have got to reel in the Jalen Lindseys of the world in order to be upper tier in the SEC. At the current pace - I don't see it.

I think the team will be and play reflective of the recruiting rankings which have been around 8 th or 9 th in the SEC since Martin has been on board.

Nationally - 2011 46th
2012 43rd
2013 36th
2014 38th

This doesn't point me to back to back tourney appearances. It makes me think - to the dance followed by - to the dumpster fire. Hope against hope I am wrong - but we haveeeeeeeeee to recruit better than listed above.

I agree with your overall point. I think starting with the 2015 class, we should hope to see an overall upward trend in recruiting. Martin should be on stable ground at the end of this season and have a tourney appearance under his belt.

Couple things on your rankings listed.... 2011 low ranking isn't on Martin. We brought in a lot of bodies on short notice. Guys who weren't SEC caliber were given schollies because of the position we were in. Also, Stokes wasn't counted in the rankings for this class.

2012 - This is the class that I think Martin took too many reaches. Probably took commitments a little early. Reece and DMontre so far don't look like they are gonna cut it, but time will ultimately tell.

2013 - Hubbs was a huge get and Thompson and Davis are sounding like steals. I really think this class was underrated. Nichols was a crushing blow. Two 5 star guys would have landed us in the top 10. So close.

2014 - Very solid class, but lacking the blue chip we'd hoped for.

I really believe that if Martin can put together a solid season this year you will see him blow up on the trail. He's landed 2 big time players so far and finished second for a few others. I honestly believe that he's very close to being a force on the recruiting trail but it all hinges on winning this year. A big season to give CCM some credibility could be the thing that tips the scale for guys like Lyle, Looney, Nichols, etc.

As long as he keeps geting the top 150 guys like Thomson, Hubbs, Truman, Cofer and Justice then we will be fine.

Beat out by a freshman and haven't even played a game yet.
Interesting.

I think he'll be put in a 3/4 spot in a 4 guard rotation. Also, Reese isn't an upperclassmen, it happens all the time a freshmen comes and beats out a sophomore. Reese still has 3 more years to develop and AJ Davis must be really good to beat out Moore also.

I admit, I'm a bit bias towards Reese; but I always try to look at a player four years from now. Martin really like his guys who work hard in practice and out of practice - Reese seems to do both. If Reese can readjust his shot mechanics (like Richardson), he could be a heck of a shooter. Reese can improve and become a better player if he really wants to.
