2014-2015 roster

JRich does stuff that doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

He'll be an excellent player his senior year and have no problem with him being a become offensive option.

Josh is deadly within fifteen feet. If he adds an average 3 point shot, he'll be great.

No problems with him as the second best for 2014-2015.

He is a lot like JP. A better shooter, but not as good at slashing as him. Both glue guys and JP really turned a corner and was at his best the last part of his senior year. Richardson hasn't been needed to really score, but if he's the 2nd scoring option I could see him averaging 11-12 a game.

There were three guards named to the SEC all-defensive team.

None were named Josh Richrdson though. He's good, but let's be realistic. But even if he was one of the best defenders, he still needs to do other things to impact the game.

During the Xavier game MC just watch Jrich every time Xavier has the ball. It will make you realize he is one of the best defensive players in the NCAA. Dude is sticky

I agree with that. Perimeter defense is sort of an imeasurable quality. But still, he'll either need to score way more in his minutes, or start contributing in other ways on offense (boards, distributing, etc.).

Right now he's just not doing enough to be a second option on a tournament team.

I watched Richardson all last season; I agree that he plays good perimeter D. I think he can improve and get his forced TO numbers up, that's why I won't say that he's one of the best in the league.

I'm not bagging on him because of defense, and I'm not really meaing to bag on him at all. he just needs to develop some other facets to his game offensively, or Martin is going to need several other young guys to step up and start scoring the ball.

I see the 2014-2015 team a lot like the 2006-2007 team. They will be carried by two guys why the freshman get their feet wet. Hopefully Hubbs is good enough to lead it to the tourney.

It would use lots of big words that seemed very out of context given the setting. Like using histrionics on a sports message board.

He's a lawyer, and he attempts to intimidate people intellectually when he has exhausted the examples for his argument. It's his thing.

Of course, when you misspell it, it sort of backfires.

I'm not saying he sucks, so let's skip the hystrionics.

But would you feel comfortable with him as your second option/second best player this season?

Whether I feel comfortable with him as our second option next year is irrelevant to my point. You said it was a stretch to call him one of the best defenders in the SEC. I disagreed, and you pointed to the 12-13 SEC all-defensive team as some sort of proof that he wasn't.

You come on here and pretend to be more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of Tennessee basketball and our personnel, so rather than argue with you about it for pages and pages, I'll just concede to the idiocy and respond in dramatic fashion in hopes that you'll just drop it. Of course, you didn't, and instead changed the subject to whether I would feel comfortable or not with him being our second option offensively, which is irrelevant.

For the record, I'm going to let the 13-14 season play out before I start worrying about the 14-15 season. If JRich is our #2 then, then so be it. This is collegiate basketball, and WAY too much can happen in the next year to change the landscape from how it appears now.

Then why are you posting in a thread about the 2014-2015 roster?

I'll ignore the rest of your post, as it's devoid of any sort of point.

Don't get so defensive, guy.

He played 30 minutes per game. Thirty!!! He averaged 7.9 pts, 4 rebs, 1 assist, .7 blocks and 1.1 steals. In thirty minutes of action!!!

He's a fine perimeter defender (one of the best in the SEC is a bit of a stretch, but for argument's sake, let's say that's true), but are these the type of efficiency numbers that you want your second-option to be putting up? No way.

Martin has got to develop some contributors this season, and Richardson is no exception.

You called him a fine perimeter defender. Not a "very good" one.

"Fine" is how I tell my wife something looks when I don't really care, or I don't want to offend her. It's how I describe my day was when I don't really want to talk about it.

In other words, I took that to mean you feel he's average, but you don't want to defend that argument, so you tag the word "fine" as a descriptive (with the caveat that it's a stretch to call him one of the SEC's best).

If you meant to say that he was a very good defender, but a stretch to call him one of the SEC's best, well, I still wouldn't agree with that because I think he is, but we can agree to disagree.

fine [fahyn] adjective, fin·er, fin·est, adverb, verb, fined, fin·ing, noun

adjective
1.
of superior or best quality; of high or highest grade: fine wine.
2.
choice, excellent, or admirable: a fine painting.

He's good, he's not the best or one of the top 5. But he's good, and if Martin develops him well (my entire point of my first post) he could get there.

Richardson is a shut down defender. Period. I would say top 3 in the SEC.

There is more to being a defender that blocks and steals.

I know what goes into being a defender, believe me.

I think it should be consensus that the three best perimeter defenders (at least before any games are played) are:

-Trevor Releford (Bama)
- Scotty Wilbekin (UF)
- Anthony Hickey (LSU)

Those three were selected to the All-Defense team last season and all return this year. I don't think Richardson is better than these guys. Just an opinion though.

Well he'll have plenty of chances to prove it this year. Don't forget often times he had to guard the other teams pg last year because of how slow Trae was. Since we got Barton, he'll be able to guard his own position this year which will help out a lot.
