2014 CFN Preview - More Rocky Times?

This post is exactly what's wrong with so many posters on VN these days. You're giving no context to what Butch has to work with and putting an arbitrary win total as the only measuring stick to this season and Butch's ability to coach. I believe Butch is the right guy, but I also understand that he has a roster full of young, unproven talent, totally new personnel on the offensive line, and group of guys on the D line that probably wouldn't play at all if they were on 10 of the 14 SEC teams, a defense that's been putrid by any statistical model you use led by a coordinator that has a questionable resume' at best, and we're playing one of the most difficult schedules in the country. Yet you are guaranteeing 7 wins, which means you probably think we win 8 or 9. My guess is if we start out 3 - 6, which is entirely possible, you'll be one of the morons screaming Butch needs to go, or you'll just vanish because you lack to intestinal fortitude to come on VN and admit you lacked any sense of objectivity in July. I for one hope its the latter.

It's entirely possible you are wrong, who's the moron then.

I was just trying to be funny. I haven't been involved in that love-fest. I hate I posted it before the "hungary" post.

I was dying to come up with a Hungary joke, but they all had to do with WWI and quite frankly I figured it would go something like:

Joke

Head

So I passed. Also passed on the "pre-madonna" thing too. I tried to make a joke about that in another thread and the response was.... tepid. At best.

The last time I looked under the NCAA rules Butch can only coach. He cannot get out on the field and play, nor can any of the other coaches. So you are going to be negative about Butch if he does not win 7 games this year. He has one of the TOUGHEST, I REPEAT TOUGHEST schedules in the country. He has had the players playing his O and D for one season and he has a bunch of freshman. Really you EXPECT him to win 7 games. That is a ridiculous thought. I want, and I hope we win 7 games this season, I would be ecstatic, but you are setting the stage to come back on here and dog CBJ if he does not. Give the man 2 years and these freshman some SEC experience under their belts then raise your expectations and see that in 2015 we should have 7 - 9 wins and go up from there. GBO - HAVE BEEN A VFL FROM THE DAY I WAS BORN!

I agree with your general sentiment right until the last couple lines. I don't think 7 wins is a "ridiculous" thought. Considering that basically one play vs UGA and one play vs Candy seperated us from 7 wins and a bowl game last year... what would we be talking about for expectations this year if that HAD happened? 7 + a win in the Shreveport Visitor's Center Toilet Bowl (lol... or whatever they're calling it)... people would be calling Butch Jones the glorious reappearing of General Neyland.

I suppose that was off on a tangent.... anyway, I don't think 7 is a far-fetched idea.

Unless your coach is Belichick, or Saban, or someone of that stature, I wouldn't be speaking of 7 wins with this particular team. I'll stick with fade on this one.

Same here. Hungary? I thought when the **** did this turn into a geography debate. Then I saw who posted it. Then I shook my head thinking that Tennessee continues to rank at the bottom where public education is concerned.

He is wrong and and everyone who agrees with him needs to take a long look in the mirror and figure some things out cuz this team is faster, more talented, deeper and a hell of a lot more Hungary then last year. It makes me angry knowing how many of you listen to this nonsense. It's like you want so bad for me to be wrong.

Hungarians rule!!!!!!!!

I don't think a 7-6 record after a bowl game is too much to ask. That's a reasonable goal. Now, if we go 5-7 and lose a couple of heart breakers, no one should go all "Fahr Butch!" But I do think the people expecting 8 or more wins are in for a rude awakening. I could be wrong and in fact I hope I am. But this team (once again) we be playing more freshman than just about any other team in the country.

Vegas over under is 4.5 wins

Heard on radio the other day that UT is the only school in the FBS to not exceed it's projected Vegas win total in the last 5 years. Anyone know if that's true? If it is, that is really depressing.
