What has he ever accomplished that would make you think he is a very good coach?
Mediocrity is not a very good. That is all he has shown.

I have no issues with criticism of Martin, so long as it's factual. Saying Martin has been mediocre is completely false. Mediocre would insinuate that he's done an average job, the fact is he's finished 2nd & 5th in the SEC, that's hardly average or mediocre.

Recruited well? Stokes was a nice get but was an unusual situation. Hubbs is a nice get but he still hasnt played a game yet. His recruiting is avg. He had two similar seasons where his team looked lost for half the season and then put a run together. That was ecpected in year one, not in year two. Grant out coached him in the bama game that cost us the tournament. Martin never made an adjustment in that game. He has this year to prove he can coach.

If Martin brought this guy on, the same people saying he should look at him would be criticizing him for taking him and saying how much over his head he is.

The guy has good size but Zo should not bring him on board.

So far he has looked in over his head. I hope the light turns on this year for him and the players, but I dont have a lot of confidence thatvit will.

My "in over his head" comment was in regards to recruiting, each class has gotten better and better. I think many are going to be very surprised with the class he pulls in 2014

How has his team done in the SEC tourney ?
How many teams has he taken to the NCAA tourney?
How did his team do in the tourney that he thought his team was too good for?

I would say that any season that does not end up in a NCAA tourney invite is avg at best.

I think its more about being consistent. They have looked good at times but have also looked really bad sometimes. That falls back onthe coach. The sec has not been very good and a 2nd and 5th means nothing to most people without a tournament appearance.

And none of those are the single factor in determining if a coach is mediocre or not. There are 37 at large teams in the dance, and what, 338 D1 teams? Once again, that's hardly the definition of average.

Like I said, over course of a 18 game conference season, his teams finished 2nd & 5th....hardly "mediocre".

The starts to both seasons have killed us, I agree. Gotta start much stronger this year.

By definition you're wrong. How many at large teams? How many D1 teams?

I agree it's not considered successful, but to say its average is just wrong.

Out of those 338 teams, how many of those teams are in conferences that only get a team in the tourney bc of the automatic bids.....I would say that lessens the pool of available candidates quite a bit.

CCM lost my respect at the end of this season. I don't buy the whole depleted roster talk, he came in at an upswing, not a downswing like Pearl. Regardless, if he was that great of a coach/recruiter it really should not have mattered because one recruiting class is all it takes in college basketball. I would have continued to support his mediocrity in hopes of this being a breakout season since we do have the best returning lineup in probably 5 years. However, his victim attitude, how he handeled us being "snubbed", and the fact the team gave up in SEC tourney play and the ensuing NIT tournament tells me we have not found our coach. He doesn't have a winning attitude, probably a big reason he has never had a tourney appearance as a head coach. I hope he does well next year and I eat crow, I just don't see it realistically happening.

Didn't Tennessee finish in a 4 way tie for 2nd then won the tie breaker for the the tourney bracket? They finished 5th this year and it was an even worse of an SEC than last year. This conference is really bad right now. These teams need to step it up.

If I'm right, that would be 5th both years. So a little above average. Edit that. It was a 3 way tie so 4th first year and 5th this year.

Who'd we beat to get that 2nd seed tho? NCAA tourney or bust for Martin. I think we should get support. I think he has the potiential and will get it done.

Well we can pick sides all we want and throw facts at each other but we all just have to wait for next season. Though one thing we can agree on is....

Go Vols!!!

I've watch UT BB on TV, followed the games on the internet, and read what you guys have to say. And I agree with one poster who hasn't seen much coaching up by CCM. Example: Jarnell Stokes. You guys talked like he was going to be Bernard King 2.0. But so far ...??

One other thing. Coaches don't keep or lose their jobs based on where the team finished in the conference. In the NCAA today, it's all about getting to The Dance. Make it and the coach has job security. Fail, as UT has done the last 2 yrs, and the coach is on the hot seat. Especially at schools with a huge fan base and an arena that can hold, what, 21K?

"In over his head" is the most overused comment on Volnation. Get a dang clue dude. I would agree if he was stinking it up but he took an under talented team and got them to overachieve his first year and finish about where they should have his 2nd year. This year will tell us one way or the other but for you to already make your judgement tells me you know little about the game.
