This is the same things that u said about the last class year and it didn't work out that way. I totally disagree that you have to have multiple years to build a relationship with a high school kid.

You don't know much about recruiting then...just look at Lyle's recruitment, UK tried to get in on him while he was going into his senior season and he laughed them off.

That's obviously your opinion. But I will take a 5 star and 2 three stars, and one of the three stars was being recruited by Vandy, Bama, and NC State. Just ridiculous that you dismiss this class. If you don't understand that basketball is different than football, then there isn't much that can be done for you. An early signing period is all you have to know about the sport.

How many coaches get 20+ win seasons with a depleted roster? There are coaches every year who don't even get 15 wins in major conferences. We're lucky to have gotten Martin. He was the best choice at the time, VCU and Butler's coach wouldn't leave their schools.

Nowhere close to true, and very reminiscent of what people said about Dooley.

And last years class (2013) is his best yet, so I was right that it would improve, each of his classes has been better than the last. And going from the looks of it, 2014 will continue that trend.

If you're a mid major coach who hasn't been to the tournament, relationships are a big part of recruiting at a high major. Check out Pitino's first class at Minnesota and tell me what ya think...

Jaquan Lyle told Kentucky to get lost because they tried to jump in his recruitment 6 months ago. He said he already has a relationship with staffs going back to freshman years, and that it basically offended him that they thought they could jump in at the end...so right there's one person that relationship matters with.

Until you start talking about beating ranked teams, that's where the similarities end.

I'm not saying he's as bad as Dooley, just that the "he was the best we could do/we should thank him for coming" line of thinking is a pretty terrible defense. (And, again, an untrue one.)

That is one guy but their are plenty of examples that it didn't take four yrs to talk and get to know the guy....stokes, chism, crews are just a few examples.

Pearl had been to the tourney, not only ar UW-M, but tennessee also. Like I said above, if you're a mid major coach who hasn't been to the dance (thus not proven much), relationships become a huge part of recruiting at a high major.

I'll say it again, check out Pitino's class at Minnesota.

Better.....yes but still 8th in the SEC...that's not getting it done.......I have already told u that I agreed that the first yr was a wash but his second class was very disappointing.

According to this 2013 Basketball Recruiting Team Rankings 7th not 8th, but that's splitting hairs. Regardless, I feel that's a dumb arguement on your part. Are you gonna criticize butch jones class for being top 10 in the country but say 6th in the SEC? The class according to that link is 26th in the country, if that results in us being a top 26 program I'm good with that.

I'm not dismissing it, every class has potential and I like our two lower rated guys in the class but it still can't be called a good bc of where it is ranked according to the other teams we compete against.

If we don't sign guys that have offers from high major schools than I will really be worried....we have amazing facilities, new practice center, 20000 seat arena, great fan support. We don't need to set our goals low....we should be striving to be like Kentucky, duke or North Carolina.....not Vandy or Bama.

Believe we've found the root of the problem.

Didn't say we should be now but that should goal.....what is your goal?..... Being Vandy? LOL

No, but saying we should be Kentucky is laughable, and if you need an explanation that's even funnier.

I'd like to see us realistically strive to be more along the lines of say Missouri if we're talking strictly SEC teams. Hell even Florida is a bit more realistic than Kentucky.

Well he!! if we are not going to try and be the best in the country then why not just shut the program down. I don't want to just be mediocre as we were before the previous coach, I want to be better than we have ever been.

If you haven't seen recent results then please look it up because that statement makes you look foolish.

Haha. That statement is pure stupidity. Sure, they will win games every now and then. But, you cannot rewrite 75 years of football history. I don't understand some people.

I'm being realistic. What do you think our athletic department is striving for with the basketball program? They hired a coach that's worth the 11th salary in the conference in their opinion. If they wanted Tennessee to strive to be like Kentucky they'd have paid what Kentucky pays for a coach.

I'm not saying this is what I want, but its reality.

We were as good or better than Missouri with pearl......I'm glad we agree hiring Zo that we probably won't be able to reach our ultimate goals.......what makes us any different than Kentucky duke NC Kansas or any of the rest?

Tradition means a lot but all it takes to create it is the right coaching hire and a lot of winning.... I hate the defeatist attitude a lot of our fans have.

The point is that they are trying to get better. Regardless of whether you say you can or you can't then you are right.

You can call it whatever the heck you want to. You don't know me and know how big of an overall sports fan I am. But some fans are outrageous with expectations and have no patience. We aren't Kentucky, end of story. Not even going to argue anymore.

Any team can and should try to get better. That's the point of sports. But that doesn't mean they don't have to overcome other team's success for 75 years.
