With Stokes being the exception every Vol Bball coach has had difficulty pulling top level recruits out of Memphis, even Pearl.
True Truth. Jerry Green probably had the most success. IIRC he pulled Tony Harris and a couple of other decent players from there. But like you said, for the most part UT has always struggled to get guys from there.
If CCM is here for a while, he will start to bring in a guy every couple of years or so. IMO

I believe Kevin O'Neil had a hand in getting Tony, but I also heard that Tony was leaving the city. It is very difficult to get basketball players out of Memphis, especially the years where there are only 2-3 high level prospects. We have a coach who can do it though.
Football is where we need to get back into The Memphis/Shelby County area. Fulmer had success there.
Question for ya Bleed.

Any idea if location is any factor with this kid. Does he have family in Murfreesboro that might help us get him on the hill?
I'm pretty sure his family still lives in Murfreesboro because that's where he went back to for summer, so I would definitely think that's an advantage for us. I would be surprised if we don't land him, Martin has really made him probably his biggest priority, and I'm not sure any other head coaches have been following him around like Martin has.
That's one reason the Austin commit is huge, it'll let Martin be a fixture at Hurt and Looney's games going forward, while other head coaches are trying to split their time between different places.
