2014 NFL Draft Thread

"Zomg I can't believe espn is talking so much about a gay football player--who cares!?"

*continues to talk about said gay football player for hours upon hours*

Makes sense.

They'd better be careful, if ESPN keeps talking about him, kids across the country are going be stricken with serious cases of "gay".

Another Dolphin in Twitter trouble

Soon after Sam was drafted, Jones tweeted "OMG" and "horrible." Those tweets since have been deleted.

Hickey also said the team plans to "sit down with Don Jones and address [the comments] and handle it appropriately."

So people cant voice their opinion any more!

Get in line and do as you are told by the PC police...or else!

Players mocked and tweeted crap about Tebow..did they have a sit down with them?

You are free to speak your mind. ....other people are also free to react.

If's the squeeze is worth the juice, speak on.

I think Mr. Jones suddenly remembered that people love easy targets and that his disgust towards whatever prompted that tweet was not worth the trouble.

Much ado about nothing. I enjoy watching football but lets be honest its already pretty gay. It's just a few steps up from naked greco roman wrestling. You got a guy "under center" fist deep in some guys chode, you have people handling balls nonstop. Heck the only non gay player on the team is the kicker who, when having to actually field the ball with his hands usually kicks it away in horror. Then there is all the ass-slaps...

Mmmm...what I really enjoyed was when the camera got a close up of his boyfriend fingering Sam's bicep. So sensual! It was an inspiration. #sobrave #tirnedon

Haters gonna hate.

And...for all you haters!...I'm glad homosexuality is a talking point in football. Watching all those hot muscular sweaty men on the field playing together...and we ARENT talking about sex?! Wha?!

After watching ESPN yesterday all I want to do is play in cake with a man!

Grow up y'all it's 2014!

Sexual preference finally has a place in sports! #culturalmilestone #gaypride #bringyourflagstogames #itstime #rammerjammermyyellowhammer

The Dolphins brass must love Twitter. M. Pouncey also tweeted yesterday about "all the gifts (J. James) was going to bring us" being a first round pick. That tweet was also quickly removed and HE was called in for a sit down. In light of the Martin-Incognito debacle not a good idea to tweet what some would see as a financial shakedown. But some guys couldn't get perspective pounded through their heads with a ballpeen hammer.

It is hilarious to me that Tebow was pushed as the face of those UF teams but the attitudes that dominated belonged to Hernandez, the Pounceys, C. Rainey, etc. Check yo' witness Tim.

But of course, Sam didn’t want his sexuality to be a distraction. Thats all its been is him kissing a dude!

They are jamming it down people throats!

This is why I didnt want him to be drafted. All they are talking about is Gay Sam this Gay Sam that! What other 7th round pick are they jamming down people throats?

if Sam didnt REALLY want it to be a distraction - we wouldn't even know about it. I will never understand why anyone has to tell us their gay. I dont tell people Im straight

The NFL combine scouts had found out about it (or at least, heard rumors) and were going to start asking questions to see how he reacted to the accusations.

He knew it was going to be coming out, so he just chose to announce it early and make it his story rather than whispers and the eventual revelation being "this is what he was hiding."

Michael Sam: I should've been drafted in the first three rounds

Former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam became the first openly gay player in NFL history to be drafted when the Rams took him with the 249th pick on Saturday, but Sam almost didn't make history because he almost fell out of the draft.

Sam was taken with the eighth-to-last pick, meaning he almost wasn't drafted at all, something he found rather shocking. The NFL's first openly gay player said he should've been picked higher.

"From last season alone, I should've been in the first three rounds -- SEC Defensive player of the year, All-American," Sam said, listing off his 2013 accomplishments, via the Rams official website. "I should have gone in the top three rounds easily."

Already complaining and whining. How ‘bout - I am so glad I got picked.. That’s the main reason teams don’t want an emotional windbag like Sam in their organization.

He listed his accomplishments, one of which includes being named the best defensive player in the best conference in the nation, and then stated that he thought that would get him drafted sooner. I fail to see what wrong with that, and he certainly didn't play any sort sexual orientation card as if he'd been discriminated against.

He was drafted right where he should have been drafted. He's slow! He ran a 4.91 at the combine. Rich Eisen isn't far off of that time these days.
He's got great instincts and will have a shot, though. He needs to slow his roll, and realize that better players didn't get drafted. I still can't believe that DT from South Carolina and Tiny Richardson didn't get drafted.
I have no problem AT ALL with a gay player in the league. I'm actually kind of confused by why anyone would care. What gets me is that he said, "I just want to be Michael Sam the football player, and not Michael Sam the gay football player." I'm pretty sure you are the one that brought all this up, dude!
The truth is that only SEC fans would know who he even is if not for all of this attention he's gotten. He would have still gotten drafted in about the same spot, too.

As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, it seems feasible that the rumor was already out there with the NFL teams that he was gay, so rather than having to either lie to them during pre-draft interviews, or tell them the truth and have them release the information, he simply released the story on his own terms.

Look at Michael Sam's combine results. They are quite mediocre. Then compare them to VPI defensive end James Gayle's combine results. Gayle went undrafted. Here's the comparison:

Michael Sam James Gayle

40-yd dash 4.91 sec 4.70 sec
Bench Press 17 reps 26 reps
Vertical Jump 25.5 in 37.0 in
Broad Jump 114 in 122 in
3-Cone Drill 7.80 sec 7.19 sec
20-yd Shuttle 4.70 sec 4.27 sec

Can someone explain to me how it's possible that the Rams could possibly take Sam over Gayle after Gayle beat him in all six categories?

St. Louis probably likes that he is coming in with a chip on his shoulder. Just let it go.

There are an infinite number of reasons they could have taken Sam over Gayle. It's the NFL draft, people do much crazier stuff than picking an AA and SEC Defensive player of the year over a DE from VPI.

Probably just to troll you. It seems to be working well so far.

SEC Defensive player of the year picked in 7th round almost last. That right there tells u no one wanted him! The Rams were forced or made promises if they took him. Rams do want to move to L.A. now the NFL will pave the way
