2014 Season Prediction

After one hell of a signing day cranked out by Butch Jones and company, things are looking up, so on to how 2014 will play out.

8/30 (Utah State)W- Matt Wells Aggies are no slouch, certainly a team on a mission as of late and will bring an interesting match-up to Neyland to kick off UT Football 2014. Tennessee finds their identity and wins by a couple of touchdowns.

9/6 (Arkansas State)W-One of those out of conference crush games, Tennessee rolls big with a lot of newcomers seeing some PT.

9/13 (@Oklahoma)L-As much as we would all love to see a win here, The Sooners are back in that damn good state of mind. Trevor Knight leads an explosive offense and they will be playoff contenders. It will be closer than the experts think, I see a 10 point difference.

9/27 (@UGA)W-A week off and refreshed from the loss, Georgia took a hit this off season with personnel and some coaching changes. Their not necessarily rebuilding but it's going to take a couple of years to get back to very good status for them. Tennessee rocks Athens.

10/4 (Florida)W-Florida had a rough year, didn't make a bowl, got beat by Georgia Southern, and their licking their wounds. They had a hell of a signing day, but it's not enough, Tennessee breaks the streak at home and we might even rush the field.

10/11 (Chattanooga)W-The Vols explode to continue the 3 game winning streak, look for a whole lot of yards in the air and on the ground.

10/18 (@Ole Miss)W-Hugh Freeze has got Ole Miss back in the talk. His phenomenal signing class last year is finally maturing and The Rebels might make a little bit of a run, but Tennessee is out to prove themselves. The Rebels will not be good enough to hang, Butch Jones and staff will have it figured out racking up win number 4 in a row.

10/25 (@Alabama)L-The streak continues, Alabama is just too strong, as much as we would like to see Kiffin get crushed by his former team, Saban's well oiled machine is still running hard.

11/1 (@South Carolina)W-This game is a trap game, more like a resilience game, how strong is team 118? After getting smacked by Alabama, I believe they will handle Spurrier's bunch like champs. Tennessee wins by 10.

11/15 (Kentucky)W-Bob Stoops did a good job by landing Kentucky in the top 20 on signing day considering it is Kentucky. Tennessee smacks the Wildcats into oblivion.

11/22 (Mizzou)W-Revenge, Revenge, Revenge!!! After going to Mizzou last year and getting embarrassed, this will not be the same effort. Mizzou coming off an SEC Championship loss isn't going to be that good again. Gary Pinkel will have them up for a sub par year.

11/29 (@Vanderbilt)W-No more losses to Vanderbilt, a new streak will start. Vanderbilt will be beat down nonetheless. They lost recruits to Penn State, their in a state of emergency and it's going to be a while before they return anywhere near prominence.

FINAL RECORD Overall (10-2) SEC (7-1)

Far Fetched? I don't think so, I believe this a year of emergence, this a year of statement, and Tennessee is back!!!

Might want to take off the orange tinted glasses for just a minute. Too many outside factors play a major part of wins and losses. Injuries and dumb penalties will play a big part in our season. I think we have a good chance to sneak up on some people this year but it will not be good if we have to use very many freshmen. I would love to see most of them redshirt this year.

I see this season being dependent upon our quarterback play.

Average QB play = 7-5

If we get QB play like this year we are looking at 6-6. If our QB has a breakout year- whomever it might be- we will go somewhere between 8-4 to 10-2 depending on the breaks.

Losses to OU, Mizzou, Bammer, Ole Miss, and UGA. We're gonna beat USCjr and Florida.

Unless we lose to Utah St in the opener; then our season is shot.

Unless you think Pinkel is a MUCH better coach than Jones, can you give a reason why you think UT should lose to Mizzou at home? Mizzou will NOT have more talent than UT. They will have a very slight experience advantage but that will be mostly for role players.

5-7 and is the most likely scenario again this year. 15 is when the upward move will begin.

By the time we get through meat of schedule, Oklahoma through Carolina, injuries will again take their toll and we just don't have the experience and depth to over come them. We head to November beat up again and fighting to get to a bowl.

Anything can happen along the way and we might get that 6th win and be in a bowl at the end of the year. Hope so, this staff is working extremely hard to get moving in right direction..

I can't take another season without a bowl. It sucks.

Looking at the schedule, I believe 6-6 at worst and 8-4 at best.

I say we finish 7-5 with losses to: @OU, @UGA, BAMA, @SCAR, MIZZOU.

If we get an 8th win, I say it's early in the season @UGA or our last home game against MIZZOU. The thing about the SCAR game is it's an away game after the Bama game. Spurrier is going to make a point to beat us after this past year and we are gonna be beat up after a hard-fought game against Bama.

It all depends on the QB we throw out there....

If we luck out and someone steps up and really wants to be the next greatest thing out there.. I can see the OP's prediction coming to fruition...

We have ANYTHING EVEN NEAR what we saw last year, 6-6 is the best we can hope for.. Be nice to get in a bowl game again(I am ashamed to say that).

Point is.. it can easily go either way.. anyone bashing the OP is an Idiot IMO... Just sayin

So what? USCjr has to butt heads with Auburn before playing us. So they could be beat up too. This is the SEC, bub, it ain't patsy conference, inc. aka Sunbelt.

Fair point. But it's at SCAR and toward the end of the season. Someone else said it earlier, our depth isn't where it needs to be. We can win that game, I just think where it is on our schedule and our depth compared to theirs is what makes it unlikely.

Reasonable concern and not to be discarded lightly. However, I believe we are already seeing a tougher
Tennessee team and coaches who know to cross train
players to minimize depth issues. If USCjr wins, they will have to earn it, and I do mean earn it. Overlooked in my view is that CBJ is putting something back into the UT jersey's that has been missing since, oh say, 2009. And that's pride. We may not be wholly there, but:

Old Smokey is a-howling
and a-growling
and sniffing the air.
We're still on the way but getting there.

I think the defense is the biggest unknown. I also think the OL will be rather leaky. But I also insist
that this is why the Dobb Goblin will be our man.
The wheels are necessary until we have a better performing OL. USCjr is going to find out last year wasn't a fluke. The Dobb Goblin is field tested now, and took prepping into his own hands when he went California-ing. Fried, baked, barbecued, or souped, the goblin likes his chicken. He's gonna git 'em.

I agree with you. Jones will have the boys prepared and the game will go down to the very end like this past year. And I'm not giving up them winning this game. It's the unknowns that have my shying away from being overly optimistic. I think it will be easier to gauge the team after the Oklahoma and Georgia games early in the season.

IOW's, you think UT will have a new coach in 2016? If he has two 5-7 seasons then many will be asking how that's better than the guy he replaced. That puts him squarely on a hot seat going into '15.

No, he will still be here in 2016.

Now, lots of UT fans will be wailing and crying about the season. But people in the areas that have an impact on who is coaching totally understand how far this program needs to go to compete in this conference. Will take a couple more recruiting classes like this 2014 class..

40 of the 85 players on the roster this fall have NEVER set foot on a division one football field in a game. then add 19 sophomores to that number. 59 of the 85 are limited to zero experience.

very hard to compete in the SEC with those numbers

You get points for brevity, but a major deduction for lame content.

I have all my teeth.

Your turn.

I wasn't trying to insult you. I'm merely pointing out you're a Utah State fan, so don't expect any insults. You have it rough, as is.
