2015 Vols to open against UAB at LP Field in Nashville

Yep. The Vandy homers on 104.5 this morning were trying to stir it up over the UT game at LP field. The question: "Do you like the idea, or would Vandy fans feel like UT is invading their turf?" I almost spit coffee on my windshield driving to work. They make it sound like Vandy actually has turf...:lolabove::eek:lol:

Oh, and folks were actually tweeting in because UT was playing UAB. You know, we should really try to step it up and play a quality OOC schedule like Vandy...:whistling:

Why are UT fans obsessed with who Vandy schedules? Why not make fun of Miss State? They play Southern Miss, UAB, South Alabama, and UT Martin. That's pathetic!

Does Florida move home games to Miami?

Does Alabama move home games to Mobile?

Does Ohio State move home games to Cincinnati?

Does USC move home games to San Francisco?

Just wondering.

Florida plays in Jacksonville annually

Alabama used to play in Birmingham for most games

It is a great idea to play UAB at LP field. Happens to be the same day as Vandy vs MTSU.....great chance to have a game to highlight Tennessee players in a venue that will be sold out of 68,000 versus a non soldout Vandy game...great great idea!!:good!:

Is Miami the capital of Florida?

We need to expand to more than just East Tennessee. Just saying.

I'm not. My point was that Vandy fans including the 104.5 homers were taking jabs at UT for scheduling UAB while failing to realize that Temple, UMass, Charleston Southern, and Old Dominion are not exactly juggernauts in college football.

The Tennessee Vols is the only football team that matters in the state of Tennessee period. I bet you are a Heat fan, when you have the Grizzlies in Memphis to support. Tennessee Vol football is Tennessee

You guys are so proud of Tennessee, yet you don't seem to give a sh*t about Tennessee's professional football team? Even worse, half you guys rooted for a divisional rival of Tennessee's team just because of one player. I understand wanting to see Peyton do well, but I can't respect when Vol fans buy Colts merchandise and stuff when they are a rival of your in state team.

If you truly love Tennessee this much, you would support their professional football team too.. and ESPECIALLY not a rival.

And don't act like UT has been more successful in the past decade or so than the Titans have been.

More importantly, there are several big name recruits Butch is fighting for who live in middle and west Tennessee. This is a way for UT to get a bit more publicity. It's a great idea, f*** the complainers. f*** half this damn fanbase.

Again, if UT fans are still obsessed with Vandy by the time this game rolls around that means UT had a crappy '14 and probably lost to them again.

Let's set our sights a little than Vandy. This game isn't being played in Nashville to spite Vandy.

It's about recruiting.....not getting over on Vandy......highlighting Tennessee players.....gets more Tennessee recruits....

I don't have a problem with LP field, but UAB? I don't get that. I could see maybe a VT or UNC or maybe even Clemson, but UAB? What's the point????

And before you go thumping your chest here is the result from the last time we played them:

Sept. 25, 2010
vs. UABW, 32-29 (2OT)Day: Saturday
Date: Sept. 25, 2010
Location: Knoxville, Tenn.
Time: 12:21 p.m. ET

They're not a good football team, we just haven't been a good one either lately.

Tallahassee
Montgomery
Columbus
Sacramento

OSU already plays its home games in Columbus (and not Cleveland or Cincinnati). Not sure what the other teams would gain by giving up home games to play by their state capitols.

I WILL BE THERE FOR SURE!!!!
This is just such an easy game for me to go too. I LOVE NEYLAND and I LOVE THE VOLS but it is nice to not have to travel so far to the game. I do not really understand why the East TN contingent of fans is so effin upset about this. It is the state team and you can "share" them with the rest of the state. The geography of the state of Tennessee invites many other states to come into Tennessee and try and steal our recruits that rightfully belong at UT. Look at a map of the US and see how many other states touch as many states as Tennessee does. Remember just a few years ago when little nicky satan strolled into Marshall County and got Dont'a Hightower, this year same school we get Medley. Somebody posted UT has Middle TN locked down, no we do not. For many years players from here have gone to bammer, the barn, ole miss, to name a few and just this year the leg humpers in athens have a commitment from Rico McGraw ( coach is going to have to flip him). So coming to Nashville is not a bad thing it is a good thing for Tennessee Vols football.

As a side note on the Titans, for those of you not in Middle Tn, a lot of the credit for the improvement of high school football in the mid-state area is tied to the Titans. The exposure of the NFL with many of the Titans and ex-Titans kids playing in the area and demanding that the level of play improve has forced high schools in the area to get better and prepare the kids better for college. So the haul of mid-state players we got was helped by the Titans presence. I am a college fan and do not follow the pro's either so I am not an NFL homer, just letting people outside the Nashville area be aware of this.

I'd rather UT play someone in Charlotte. Better recruiting exposure, IMO. Pretty obvious that CBJ has Middle Tennessee locked down at this point.

But as a rule, I don't see the benefit of giving up a home game. No way it can generate the revenue.

I absolutely love the idea of going to LP and keeping our boot pressed firmly to the neck of mid-state recruiting, and I believe given the length of Tennessee and it's horizontal distance (I think the end to end distance between Memphis and Knoxville is something like 400 miles or thereabouts) it makes sense to do a road show, but the whole "everyone should love the Titans because they're Tennessee's pro team" thing never stuck with me.

I don't think anyone outside of Nashville thinks of them as the "Tennessee Titans." I think everyone outside of Nashville thinks of them (subconsciously) as the Nashville Titans. And, it's been that way because (1) they're located in Nashville, and (2) we already had a "Tennessee" team for the state, namely the Vols. I know the name has Tennessee in it, but that's just what Bud and the franchise decided to name them. No one else was in on that decision. Moreover, most pro teams are named for cities - Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Bucs, Washington Redkins, etc. It is what it is.

I say this having lived in Nashville, gone to a few Titans games, and having followed them for all of the Fisher years.
