2017 Around the SEC Thread

11-0 LSU after 6. Even Tiger fans down here are quiet, awaiting one more inning before 10-run rule kicks in.

I hope you've had a really enjoyable week, sax.

FYI... It takes a lot of work to pull off a tourney like this. My daughter is the Game Presentation Manager for the OKC Dodgers. They are hosting the Big12 Tourney in OKC this week. I was shocked at the hours they put in.

Hogs whacked gators 16-0. Both games today instituted the "mercy rule"! WHO would've thunk it? :whistling:

Clean slide by Fletcher. LSU being pu$$ies exchanging words over that slide

Cheap shot. Rules were changed a few years ago to prevent such things, though I disagreed at the time. What drives me crazy is the length of these games; something must be done! We saw every game in Hoover & the pitching was really down this year. Batters need to be made to get up to the plate & stop all the posturing.

No it wasn't. The 2nd baseman was 5 ft up the baseline. No rule says you can't slide into 2nd base which is exactly what he did.

He has to slide straight into the bag or it's interference. The worst part is, he wasn't even out at 2nd. The kid was off the bag. Both runners should have been safe.

No sir. That's not an opInion. It's a fact.
Watch the tape and you will see. Every single umpire and announcer agreed it was the only thing the runner could do.

What should he have done?

He has to slide

Typical response from you.

Yes sir. Not sure how anyone else could have seen it any other way.

How was it a cheap shot? He slid straight into the bag. He wasn't 1 inch out of the baseline. He either slides or gets a side arm fastball to the face. Freeman made no attempt to slide step out of the baseline and actually stepped into it. 1st base umpire was mic'd up and when talking with Maineri you can hear Maineri say the slide was perfectly fine and his players agreed it was. They took issue with something else about the slide, but not the slide itself. Peterson and Burke suggested maybe because he didn't make an attempt to see if Freeman was ok and instead just ran off the field. And since when is attempting to break up a double play a cheap shot? Freeman could've slid or jumped but did neither. Fletcher didn't slide late, he didn't slide out of the baseline, he didn't go spikes up; he slid into 2nd base as cleanly as possible. To be such a big baseball fan you sure have a weird take on the game.

Fine. I was only at the game in Hoover. :shades:

What does that have to do with anything? We all saw 12 replays on our tv's from every angle. There was nothing cheap or dirty about the play. Being there makes no difference. Many of us have been to Hoover, doesn't make one's perspective any better.

VN IS an opinion board last time I looked. That's what I offered, & once again the "Xperts" attack. Just because you listen to tv talking heads doesn't make your opinion any better, either. I stand by my opinion despite yours, so deal with it & go about your bizzness. :snoring:

The second baseman being 5 feet directly up the baseline isn't an opinion. It's a fact. Being at the game you likely couldn't see that.
