2017 Around the SEC Thread

A&M gives up 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th for the second night in a row. A walkoff Grand Slam wins it for Baylor. A&M left a lot of runners on the bases.

Rough day for the SEC. Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi St, LSU, A&M, South Carolina all lost.

Auburn, South Carolina and A&M all blew 9th inning leads and LSU lost on a walk off single after tying it in the top of the 9th. Crazy day.

RPI has been updated.

Can somebody explain how MI State has a SOS of 7 with no wins over a top 50 RPI team yet we have a SOS of 37 with a 3-1 record against top 50 RPI teams and they're all on the road.

aTm appears to have another potent offense but lack the pitching depth that they even had the last few seasons.

Have had this discussion in basketball, but the RPI itself is flawed.

It looks like Michigan State has only played one team with a losing record, and they are 5-6. We have, too, but Norfolk State is 3-8. Also, because of weather and schedule, Michigan State has played 8 of 10 on the road, and the other 2 are neutral. They haven't played a home game. That will generate a better RPI. Early RPI numbers will benefit teams who play tough schedules or the northern teams who win a bunch of road games. Our RPI might have fallen a spot or two after having swept Norfolk State because it was at home against a 200+ RPI team.

I'm questioning the SOS ranking not the RPI. They are 0-0 against top 50 RPI. We are 3-1. That certainly doesn't suggest a higher SOS.

Also, our "neutral site" wins were in CA against CA teams. They may not have been "home games" for them but it certainly was less than "neutral" LOL

I think the 3 games against Norfolk State at 238 hurt us. They have played 7 games against the top 112 whereas we have played 5. These numbers are skewed because it's still early. Unfortunately, I think any game is neutral as long as it's not played at a home stadium.

From looking at the ESPN app and other teams sites, it appears there will be roughly 42-43 SEC baseball games this weekend. All are home games. Only 3 will not be on SEC Network+. I will let you guys guess the 3.

Tough night for conference

Auburn is terrible despite their overinflated record

Missouri can't be judged from their soft OVC schedule

Kentucky throttled a pretty good Wright State team after sweeping UCSB this weekend. Wright had beaten Clemson twice and South Carolina once on a pass through SC . They may be for real

It is great being able to watch all of this college baseball. It would be greater if I could watch the college I have been a fan of since in utero.
