2017 Recruiting Chatter

It seems like from what I'm hearing on the top instate recruits, that nearly all of them are dead set on going somewhere else. Stevens to LSU..Gray to FSU..Rodgers to Clemson..etc. And a lot of folks think Tee Higgins is going to flip to Clemson. I am wondering where all this optimism that we are going to have a top 3 class next year is coming from? And before y'all start on me, I am not trying to start a bunch of negative crap..I've been hearing since last year that the 17 class is going to be maybe our best ever, and I honestly want to know where all the big optimism comes from. I want to feel it.

By the time that next years class signs on the dotted line we're going to hear many amazing things...most probably not true. Of course we won't get everyone but there's enough talent in next years class that the TDOT may have to build some new roads for all the recruiting cars rolling into Tennessee.
PS. We'll get our share and more if the staff thinks any of the kids are worth going after. :peace2:

GO VOLS!

I don't see us signing 25.

If we dominate everybody next year and all our legit Jrs leave I could see us having 20 spots. So at least 5 transfers.

It could happen but I honestly don't think it will.

You don't think it will happen? It happens every single year. Actually their will be at least 5 that will "move" on for various reasons.

As it stands now, Tennessee has 10 players in the ESPN top 300 for '17. Including 4 of top 52.

This class we just signed had 8/300.

Lockdown the state.

Stevens will be a struggle. He's number 22 with a bullet. LSU will be hard to overcome BUT we are chipping away at him. Also, watch Oklahoma...

Because situations change (see Stevens and LSU already shifting somewhat) and we will be able to get a majority of the elite instate guys. Also, anyone that seriously thinks Tee is going to flip to Clemson knows nothing. He will 100% be at UT.

So we basically already have two 5* locks for the class in Tee and Gibbs, a strong instate class that coaches have been doggedly going after for years, and then we will do our usual thing in our surrounding states. If we have a great season next year, we will challenge for the number one class overall.

That sounds good Mock...good answer. Skill guys seem to be plentiful, but we have got to heavy on the interior Heavys on both DL and OL next year. How does that shape up?

Gray is all over the place. Said he's a lifelong FSU fan but at the Rutherford County Jamboree this past season he told someone very close to volatil he's going to USC. Now he's talking UT.

He's going to change his mind a million times between now and NSD.

Just got to keep chipping away at him.

It will be interesting to see it unfold this year. If you're going to preach lock down the state it has to be every year. IMO it can't be every other or every third year. If it's not every year it's no different from an FSU, a Bama, or whoever when they only show up when it's a top 50 type guy. You've lost your "state school" advantage. My current class prediction is very instate heavy. I would not be surprised at all If a lot of those kids decide to play elsewhere. When our staff is preaching "stay home, play for the state school" to kids in this class, what's the response when recruits and coaches ask, "where were you last year"?

Recruiting this year was crazy especially the week before NSD but next year will become even crazier. Imagine thinking you have a good handle on things during the year and then Team 120 makes the CFP :eek:hmy:

The last weeks of Jan 2017 will then change from Coaches recruiting certain 3*\4* to having many 4*\5*'s wanting to take a ride on the Big Orange train

Should be a bigger class. 24-28 range I'd imagine. Too early to know but it has a chance to be top 5. Lots of in state talent in '17

Earlier, I listed the (15) seniors in this upcoming class. Of course, it could be (17) should Kamara & Barnett leave early.
I don't see 24 - 28 range, unless alot of players leave like Paulk did last season, etc. etc.
This recruiting class should be small and very particular as to whom we select to fill needs. We can't any misses.

The key to recruiting success next year is success on the field.
With the talent Butch now has accumulated, we have to make a run at the SEC East.
If we underperform, we tank.

We are also going to have to expand our passing game. We have a more seasoned line, and greater depth. If we hope to lure top notch QB's and WR, the bubble screen are not going to cut it.
This is being used against us on the recruiting trail and will continue to be a thorn in our side, if we don't improve our passing attack.

You are correct.

I will always have high expectations for TN.

It would be a shame to lose most of these prospects.

Rudy Rudy Rudy..Barnett and Kamara, Hurd are almost definitely gone with good years. They will make room for this 17 class..there will be much hand wringing and weeping and gnashing of teeth from Leb and his ilk as underperforming players get "processed". You better get ready for it, it is happening.

Quote from Maleik Gray
I've spoken with Jacoby (Stevens), Princeton and Gentry Bonds about the chance to stay instate and player together," Gray said. "They were for it so it's definitely something we could all end up doing."

So you think we should sign inferior players just because they are instate? Sacrifice the future just to " win your state"? Ridiculous. Lebvol is back with a vengeance

Next years class could be #1 in the nation.

Gibbs
Higgins
Stevens
Grey

Right off the top of my head.

Can someone list the top 8-10 in the state of TN? I know next year is a strong year. Thanks in advance...

I think this will be our best shot yet at a #1 class and hopefully dethrone bama on the field and on the recruiting boards. All the variables are there, room, lots of instate talent, a team with the potential to turn some heads and get some newfound attention and a staff that seems to be building relationships and in-roads all across the country
