2018 Recruiting Class

Agreed that coaches & players should give their best effort. I just think fans tend to mis-remember a lot of the Summitt years because Pat was extremely successful. But it wasn't always pretty.

We were winning games like 46-44. CP3 scored 3 pts TOTAL in the SECT vs LSU. Was that her best effort? She wasn't pulled.

Omg, don't forget the 2009 class that lost in NCAA 1st round to Ball St. Pat couldn't motivate them for crap. She tried everything. No names on jerseys. Kicked out of locker room. Extra practices. Running. Do their own laundry. Was Pat a terrible coach? No. Did she get to the Final Four in her last 4 seasons? No. Should we have fired her? No.

I think Pat was best motivating prior generations. I think she made a difference in some of the very best players. Got them to really buy in. But I still think what pushed 2007 & 2008 to Nattys was Anosike. She demanded and willed her teams (mostly Parker)to give more.

The rewards/work ethics are different now. Kids don't respond the same way. There's more talent and TN doesn't always get the best players anymore. Look at the transfers almost weekly this off-season.

Holly has had success. She's not the best coach perhaps, but also not this horrible coach either. I think she's having to learn what makes players tick. The way TN has done things in HW's previous 30 years doesn't work as well today. It works ok, but can lead to this Jekyll/Hyde we've seen the past 2 seasons. I think the most talented players today come with egos and psyches that are tough to manage.

Anyway, just wanted to respond to your mention of how it used to be. I don't think TN is that different (despite some bad losses). I do think the landscape of WBB is much different. That's what HW has to master.

I nominate this line for sports understatement of the year. Congrats.

You're making third-rate excuses for our third-rate coach. Kids don't respond the same way they did 20 years ago? Really? Is that why we've lost 26 games in two years? Are the kids responding to the coaches who've been beating us? I think they are! Other coaches are motivating their kids and winning games and winning titles, so your attempt to blame our problems on the players is....lame. Teams and players either perform and play well and win games or they don't. Everything else is just excuse-making.

Does anyone know if Williams or Nelson-Ododa have scheduled official visits?

Odada still has a top 12 but we are in Williams top 5. She was going to take her officials over the summer but made the USA team so she is doing fall official visits now. She hopes to decide in the early signing period. That's all she has said so far...

My point was to address the post that said Pat would not tolerate the lackluster effort of the players. I didn't blame the players; that would be the original poster.

YOU said everything is excuses, but you slam our coach every chance you get. Are you just making excuses?

If you didn't have such anti-Holly agenda, you'd have supported what I said. Wasn't long ago that you yourself posted that TN had issues with the team performance during the Summitt years. At least that was my recollection.

I wasn't making excuses (3rd rate or otherwise) as much as trying to say that it is important for Holly to try new motivating methods because our old ones may not be effective.

We lost 26 games in two years, but 18 of those were by 10 points or fewer.

TBH, Armchair, I've had you blocked for several weeks because you just enjoy too much being an ass.

First day I take it off and this is what I get. *shrugs*

I thought your first post was excellent. We do remember what we remember:p, and with Pat losing 10 games in a season was a one time occurrence in over 20 years...and ended in a NC. (Hand me my orange tinted glasses.) You're right, something needs to "motivate" the girls if they aren't self-motivators. Now if I knew what the "something" was and could implement it...WOW. Who knows, maybe a present day Anosike will emerge, or in a tight game someone will tell them it's just X more stops and they'll believe it:).

Go Lady Vols!

Probably hoopgurlz..both services have wildly differing player rankings..although i hope prospect nation is more accurate, bc as it stands now tennessee already has a top 5 ranked 2018 class based on their player rankings. If tennessee adds decosta and nicolleti, that has to be at least a top 3 class

According to her mother, Gabby Crawford, 6'2" F from Munford, TN has been invited on an official visit by the Lady Vols.

Crawford is rated #98 overall and the #18 Forward in the 2018 class by Prospects Nation. I couldn't find a rating by any other service.

Other than Lauren Avant, have the Lady Vols gotten a recruit from the Memphis area? Reading the article there seems to be early interest on her part in the Mississippi schools and Alabama.

I believe she has visited Miami officially. Princeton, Harvard, Louisville, Duke , Alabama, all of the Mississippi schools , Memphis and a host of others are interested in her!! Been to Miss. State more than once!

She is a lefty who can play inside and on wing about 6'3" I think? Plenty of interest for a not so highly ranked player??? 🤔

Rankings don't matter... especially in the Women's game when you have size and versatility and a big upside.

Becky Clark was from Memphis. She was on the roster for a year. They were keeping records then, too.

Tennessee has two commitments - guard Jazmine Massengill and forward Amira Collins - for its 2018 signing class. Guard Izabela Nicoletti Leite informed the Lady Vols earlier this week, before Law's decision, that she was committing to Florida State. She made a campus visit earlier this month.

Anybody heard differently??
