2018 Recruiting Class

After last years class, I think it is more important to recruit to future rather than immediate needs. This may or may not result in a top 5 class.

So, with the recent departures, there are immediate needs at the guard position now. Still need another post IMO in this class.

A month ago I was thinking 13 was too many, but now we are down to 11 and realistically a rotation of 9 verus 7last year.

I look at ESPN recruiting and see that we are recruiting a post for 2018 from Georgia, Jessika Carter 6-3. She is rated a 90. Honestly, I am not sure we have a bigs coach that can develop players that are considered projects.

We should be able to get DeCosta from California and at least two of the top guards. I think Williams is a UCONN lock and Ododa will probably end up in South Carolina.

We have a coach who can and has developed posts. Mercedes is virtually unstoppable one on one. So was Izzy. The team has just not had the outside shooting to stop the triple teams. Better shooting along with a stronger #4 who can also score will make it more fair for Mercedes. We need wing players that opposing teams honor defensively and a point who can consistently hit from the key.

I said before last year that outside shooting was going to be a problem, which was no great insight as shooting has been a problem for this team for a LONG time. Nared's shooting improved a lot last year--including 3-point shooting. After her, who? DD's shooting percentage has been pretty average, at best, since she got here. Shooting the three is not a strength for her. That leaves us hoping that one or two freshman can hit jumpers--and 3s. Three-point shooting has become very important in college basketball: If you're not making at least four/five a game you will lose to good teams who can shoot the three. Shooting threes is a BIG reason why UConn has been the best offensive team in the the game for years. Same for Duke on the men's side. DD will have to be better at hitting threes this year. She can make them but is very inconsistent and her game is really driving to the basket. We have to hit outside shots because otherwise opponents will just pack it in around Russell. We shall see how it goes.

not hitting three point shots is probably a lack of ability or practice. Not guarding the opposition's three point shooters has no excuse. coaching?

The best player in Tennessee! SL Greeneville high Greeneville, Tn. Come on holly take a look at this young lady.

With Cooper transferring I think Nicolette is a must. We need outside shooting and out of the ladies we're recruiting for '18 she's the best shooter (correct me if I'm wrong). If DeCosta signs she could play the 3/4 but we could also use another post to go with Collins as well.

Westbrook/Hayes
DeShields/Jackson/Massengill
Nared/Davis/Dunbar
Green/Harris/Collins
Russell/KK

Wow: we again have no depth and will have to hope that some of the freshmen show out. We basically have one reserve--Jackson--who has played a lot and can be expected to contribute in various ways, one hopes. Dunbar hasn't played much, Harris is not going to play, and everybody else is a freshman. KK will play but is said to be a project.

Surprised there isn't more discussion about Morgan Jones, 6'2 guard/wing out of Georgia for 2018.

She is a high priority target for the coaching staff...

I was impressed by her highlight reel. Incredibly active and quick on offense and defense. Deliberate offensive game. Looks to be a leader on the floor. Would love for her to be a Lady Vol! 🍊

Agreed that it's a little concerning. I have to think that Dunbar's foot injury played a huge factor in her performance this past year. Hope she has time to heal and come back to at least where she was her sophomore season.

Older girls on a high school team were bullying her and they could not prove she was bullied! Probably some seniors not wanting the young new kid starting in front of them? So she goes to Riverdale high and win a couple of state championships!!!! There loss😜
Thanks. Makes sense. Others think I was trolling, but I don't remember it being discussed here and was curious what prompted the lawsuit. Didn't catch that it happened at a different school.

Google works well...but something tells me you know how to use it when you want to.
