#31 Kofi Cockburn
#37 Tre Mann
#66 Marcus Watson
#81 Kira Lewis
#83 Dekeyvan Tandy

NR Jason Jitoboh(#190 by 247)
NR Davonte Gaines(#204 by 247)-UT COMMIT

Jaykwon Walton plays on Team Thad with KyKy Tandy so the staff saw him play, he had a strong weekend so unclear if Vols are recruiting him at all or were only there for Tandy, but something to keep in mind.

Jason Jitoboh has had a very strong start to EYBL, a lot of people had questions about him but he’s started out nicely. He has to continue to get into better shape but he seems to realize that and is working on it, to this point Vols haven’t made him a priority but I’m sure they’re keeping track of his progress.

Another name worth keeping in mind is Drew Pember, 6’9” 3/4 that plays at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Barnes and staff visited him last week...he plays for B Maze’s AAU team and has had a nice start to the year, Maryland watched him last week but he’s got an offer list of mostly mid-majors at this time. I don’t think he is likely someone we would take in the fall but could be a name that we pursue come the spring if he is still available. I’ve also seen it mentioned he’s a year ahead of his class so he could reclassify to 2020 and go prep school for a year, if he were to do that I think Vols would definitely have interest.

Doesn't basketball have two signing days? Spring and Fall? Do we have a real chance at anybody yet?

The spring “signing day” for 2018 has passed, at this stage of a 2018 was to commit they just enroll in school. But no, it’s not likely Tennessee adds a 2018 anytime soon, DJ Burns (currently 2019) is the likeliest, but could be awhile before/if he reclasses.

Jitoboh doesn’t appear to be a guy Tennessee is going to continue pursue but he’s trending up for sure...offered by Wake Forest, Arkansas and Louisville yesterday.

Must feel good about our engagement with other prospects

There’s just not really a ton of room, best case scenario is we have 4 spots open for the fall signing period.

Davonte Gaines is already committed, DJ Burns whether he is 2018 or 2019 will take up 1/4 scholarships, so now you’ve got 2 spots left for the fall signing period, so yea definitely have to be a bit selective which is why I think you see them bringing in Mann.

My guess is he’s their top priority at PG and that’s why the OV is being used now, if he commits you’ve got 1 spot left to use, if he doesn’t then you probably cross him off the list and focus on trying to get Tandy/Lewis to campus in the fall.

Getting Mann in the fold would be huge. I can't get a read on Burns. Seems like TN has felt good for a long time but nothing has happened and I've noticed some SC guys think he's going to end up there.

Any word on how Gaines is progressing and what events/if any he's been going to?

Who has said that on Burns?

Gaines played in an AAU event a couple weeks ago that Future 150 attended, he was named a stand out but of course now I can’t find the article.

Good to hear that on Gaines. Hopefully he continues to develop and get bigger and stronger. The staff had to have seen something they really liked to take him so early.

I saw one of the guys on SC's 247 site talking up Burns and SC a week or so back. Also noticed they got a CB from him last week as well from Andrew Slater.

Going to Hargrave will be a good thing for him, much better competition and he should get stronger there for sure.

I know SC had an in home with Burns so maybe that is what you’re referring to is their board discussing that? I didn’t see anything about their site talking up him heading to SC or anything like that? I did see the CB from Slater, that pick coincides with the timing of the home visit so not sure there.

I would be very surprised if Burns isn’t a part of the 2018 class for Tennessee, as would the staff.

I hope you're right on Burns. Would be absolutely huge for the program. Getting him and Mann together would be massive for the upcoming seasons.

One thing I did noticed on Gaines was that he did jump quite a bit I believe in the Future150's rankings when they did their update in January (Not sure if they've updated since). He went from a 3-star to #82 nationally and a 4-star.

Yea, they’ve probably viewed him more than any other outlet has as they’ve got guys up in that area...but not sure if ranking is accurate or a bias from seeing him.

So let’s say 2018 lands Fore & Burns and 2019 is Mann/Tandy/Gaines...

2018-2019:
PG: Bone(JR)/Fore(SR)
SG: Bowden(JR)/Turner(RJR)/Johnson(RSO)
SF: Admiral(SR)/Pons(SO)
PF: Williams(JR)/Fulk(RSO)/Kent(RFR)
C: Alexander(SR)/Walker(SO)/Burns(FR)

2019-2020:
PG: Bone(SR)/Mann(FR)/Tandy(FR)
SG: Turner(RSR)/Johnson(RJR)
SF: Bowden(SR)/Pons(JR)/Gaines(FR)
PF: Williams(SR)/Fulk(RJR)/Kent(RSO)
C: Walker(JR)/Burns(SO)

2020-2021:
PG: Mann(SO)/Tandy(SO)
SG: Johnson(RSR)
SF: Pons(SR)/Gaines(SO)
PF: Fulk(RSR)/Kent(RJR)
C: Walker(SR)/Burns(JR)

*4 open spots for 2020 class*

These classes would provide good balance among positions and would make it so we aren’t having to be reliant on playing true freshman big minutes, if they play it’s because they’re deserving...solid recipe imo.

Would you redshirt Burns? If not, I’d give him some time at the 4.

Looks like that 2019 will be critical in making that happen.

2019-2020 roster features...

4 seniors
4 juniors
2 sophomore
3 freshman

Not sure how 2019 is any more critical than 2016, 2017 or 2018...all of those classes play a role in not having to throw true freshman out there unless warranted. 2019 will play a similar role as those previous classes going into the future as will the 2020 class which currently projects to have 4 open scholarships.

We've been through this.

It's all about 2020-2021 season. Gonna have at least 4 freshman that year and gonna count on sophomores a ton. And I don't have a lot of confidence in Kent, Johnson and Fulk who are supposed to be the upperclassmen on that team.

I would lump Burns into that 2019 class really cause he's gonna shirt most likely and if we don't sign him we'd be using that 4th scholly in 2019 instead.

Not much of a different makeup than the 2019-2020 season or the last 3 seasons either. The key will be the development of those 6 upperclassmen and if most/all can become SEC rotational level players...that’s a question neither you or I know the answer to. Yes you can give your opinion, but I could give the same opposite opinion...like I’ve said, many people weren’t high on Schofield or Alexander their freshman seasons, didn’t see many calling Turner a future SEC 6th MOY, so I’m not ready to write those kids off just yet.
