2020 Presidential Race

That's not it.

It's what it is in a nutshell. You refuse to see it. Dems have No control over Trump in telling him what to do.
That's what the Democrats have done for a long time w/other presidents and they hate Trump bc they have no control on how he gets things done ....... that's why they fight him daily tooth & nail.

Rifleman posted yesterday voter participation is increasing the last few elections. I expressed concern about it. Participation increasing as candidate quality is decreasing is not good. I think the parties will be convinced higher turnout increases their odds at winning and that substandard candidates actually increase participation. It's a bad recipe.
I would disagree with candidate quality decreasing, with the exception of Trump and Biden.

Of course not, anyone casting an illegal vote should be prosecuted to the fullest, just as anyone attempting to hinder someone from casting a legal vote, or counting a legally cast vote.
I think if someone is caught voting fraudulently they should lose their right to vote for a significant period of time.

that's not surprising.

the more objective / less partisan folks see a general decline in quality in candidates. FTR, popular candidates =/= quality candidates.
So Carter/Ford was a better selection than Obama/Romney?
Johnson/Goldwater was a better selection than Gore/Bush?
That's your objective and non-partisan opinion? okey-dokey.

I think you're right. There's nowhere near the sheer dislike for Biden that there was for Hillary.

As for the last sentence, Trump surely does himself no favors with his behavior, but the second Covid-19 started affecting the economy, I don't think it was going to be easy for any incumbent.
Maybe, but he had a chance for the “rally around the flag” boost, and be totally squandered it.

Certainly. Over the past 50 years, the quality of candidates are dropping. With an occasional outlier, the character, integrity, leadership, principles, preparedness for the job are declining.

Biden
Trump
Clinton
Obama
Romney
McCain
Kerry
Bush
Dole
Clinton
Bush
Perot
Reagan
Mondale
Carter
Ford

This is not an impressive list. 3 former governors (experience). Lot's of scandals. Vote buying and reckless debts. Pathetic. And it is getting worse.

I think people are turning out because they want to change the bad candidates that their previous apathy allowed to gain power. Watergate cratered civic engagement for a generation and that has been a bad thing.

Incumbents generally hate high turnout, and if you could get rid of gerrymandering for Congressional seats a lot of these ghouls won't be able to get re-elected.

Edit: also doesn't inspire confidence that neither party can run a primary election.

I think you could take the list back another 100 years and not be any more impressed.
Who were the impressive and well qualified candidates?

impressive and qualified going back 100 years or from the list i posted?

I am soooo ready for this election to be over with. I thought the division during the 2016 election was bad; the 2020 election has been and will be an order of magnitude worse.
I honestly think it will be a long time before it is this bad again.

At least many earlier candidates were actually leaders. Who would ever willingly follow Trump or Biden?
Agreed. Ideally, I would like a candidate to have executive experience from a governorship, or from private industry. Prefer to not have someone from a military leadership background.

The truly qualified men/women do not want to go through the grinder it takes to run.
