There is no way we will have a winner on election night because there are too many swing states which don't allow votes to be counted before election day - Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Arizona. That is one thing that could easily be changed and help the process.

I’n not critical of the central ideals, but of how those ideals are not cleanly functional in the operations of federal, state, local government.

That is the way it should be in every state. Mail in or absentee ballots should be required to be received 1 week before Election Day and tallied prior to Election Day. That way they can be posted immediately after polls close. No reason to still be collecting ballots 7+ days after an election
