Ain’t nothing like seeing them live and in color! My 2nd favorite aircraft.

My dad retired from the 75th FIS - they had F-101Bs at the time. The squadron was deactivated a couple of years later and eventually reactivated as the 75th Fighter Squadron with A-10s. The 75th was one of the original Flying Tiger squadrons - the logo in the 1960s was a tiger shark with missiles coming out from under the wings. The current 75th paints the famous shark mouth on the A-10s - it never looks as right as it did on the P-40, but it's not bad.

When the A-10 fires the GAU-8 30mm cannon the airplane slows for two reasons.

One the force of the recoil has a deceleration affect on the aircraft.

Two, and more important, the smoke is choking out the engines the fix was when the guns fire the hit the igniters on the engines to immediately re-light them.

Good thing it only carries a few seconds worth of ammo at a continuous firing usage.
