You can check your status online. For me it was easy as I’m the son of a career military man. On my 18th birthday he drug my ass to the post office and said fill this out. Commentary was not entertained. I complied while having no idea what it was. He explained on the way home.

Same here. I am 100% debt free and have a nice personal retirement. That doesn't change the fact that SS was an abject failure of its stated purpose.

I think we've been down this road a few times... So, the "5 minutes" should be the standard time it takes to register? I'm good with that as long as there is a no cost option, and that the requirements not be changed within a year of an election.
