2020 Presidential Race

It was a joke, based on exactly that fact that so many of you think Trump is great for his trolling.

0% chance either of them gets nominated.

Then I’ll correct your continuum points for progressivism and deduct them from my “ that was a terrible joke continuum “

You’re gonna have to look up Booker’s et. al. criminal justice reform ideas on your own, piglet. No time for remedial lessons, today.

My "HUH" was only directed at your comment on "less government intrusion". How do you figure that?

Don't be so testy today.

Uh, he didn’t say he would vote for any democrat over any republican in perpetuity. He said he would vote for any democrat over Trump. That’s totally different.

He said he had objectivity out the wazoo . Are you the expert on objective wazoos now ?

Funny. But the reality is that Trump is under Putin's control. Trump and his administration have blocked sanctions, slow walked them, and fired anyone who dares tell the truth about it. Trump has personally lied about it repeatedly.

And now, aided by Moscow Mitch, Trump is paving the way for the Russians to meddle even more next year.

What happens if they meddle for the Dems this time and a Dem wins ? That’s what I’d do if I was Putin , make sure everyone knows I want a Dem to win .

Obama was also in bed with Putin. Obama allowed the Russians to fix the election for a Trump win.

At this point, it does not matter who they want to win. We know they favored Trump in 2016, and there are a myriad of reasons for that, ranging from the benign (he just really did not like HRC), to the sinister (he knows Trump is easily blackmailed and he has dirt on him). As Trump is going to escape repercussions for that, what's done is done.

Right now we need someone in power to step up and acknowledge the problem and do something about it to prevent or at least minimize it in 2020. As is, you have the FBI, the CIA, and universally all of the intelligence agencies sending up flares left and right that is is an enormous, existential problem for our democracy. But Trump won't admit it because in his view to do so casts doubt on his own win 2016. His ego cannot take the hit. And Moscow Mitch won't even let bills that would protect against it come to the floor or get serious debate, because he is under directon not to allow it by Trump.

Just wanted to drop by and say Andrew Yang and Tulsi 2020. They're the only two decent candidates that aren't war mongers, corporate/big pharma elitist. Oh, and Tulsi completely demolished Chameleon Harris. Put a fork in her she is done. Also Biden is a perv weirdo that rides on the coattails of Obama, it's sad how much the MSM wants to prop him up and actually think people want to vote for him. I hate Trump, but Trump would annihilate him.

Can we get a bill to the senate without any kind of pork added to it ? Also no serious discussion can take place without voter ID ( in my opinion )

He needed a mic to drop with his closing statement. The millions of jobs that automation has got rid of is what got Trump elected. It wasn't Russia like the Democrats want their followers to believe. Trump will win by a landslide if the winner of the Democratic primary doesn't address this. They will not win back the manufacturing states Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Wisconsin.

Not testy. I understood your question, but I obviously limited that statement to the issue of criminal justice reform, so the response was to point you back in the direction of what I said.

My morning freed up a bit, after all, so I’ll get to take lunch:

Booker’s stated policy is to reduce incarceration rates by lowering sentencing guidelines for nonviolent drug offenses, offering clemency to those serving long sentences for nonviolent drug crimes, and legalizing marijuana (hopefully with other definitional reforms, although nobody has talked about that, and I won’t let best stand in the way of better). He wants to address recidivism by removing barriers to employment and expunging records for decriminalized offenses. Generally he is disparaging of the war on drugs. I support all of those things as they result in a net increase in Liberty.

He also wants to restore voting rights for former felons, which I support, even if it’s somewhat self-serving.

Booker proposes reinvesting in communities, which I do not support. It’s nebulous, it feeds corruption, the money doesn’t get to where it needs to be, and the government just cannot fix poverty or mandate social change. I’d prefer they just not spend it at all and give it back to the people in the form of lower taxes. Some of which would end up in those communities. Bennet proposed reinvesting in education, which I think is more plausible but would do less to effect the social change needed to reduce recidivism.

Some of them mentioned ending qualified immunity for police, which I think is a nuanced issue that is being tossed out too casually to score points, but a move towards heightened accountability for law enforcement would result in increased liberty for others. Unchecked abuses by law enforcement have lasting effects that go beyond the individuals involved. To some extent, decriminalizing marijuana and ending the war on drugs would address some of these issues, over time.

Booker probably has the best record on this particular issue. He sees these issues as significant to African American voters, who he sees as key to democrat electoral victory. So, it’s in his self-interest to follow through.

Presently, it’s an issue that has some bipartisan support, so the likelihood of any of it getting accomplished seems greater than invasive Dem policies, like gun control.

I think his closing statement is what got him all the attention. He had a really good night with the limited amount of time he was given to speak (least amount of time for any candidate last night).
I was on Reddit last night and apparently his campaign website crashed because of all the traffic post debate. I think he makes it to the next debate after last night.

This x100! The working class and college graduates suffered under Obama because he pushed the only way to get a good job was through college and the only degreed jobs Obama back filled were tech jobs. The rest of the jobs that he filled into the economy were all minimum wage jobs. What was the byproduct? Large amounts of college students with debt who had nothing but minimum or close to minimum wage jobs to get into.

What is the Democrat solution to this Democrat created problem? Cancel student debt/free college while raising the minimum wage.

The whole time it should've been analyze why manufacturing is leaving the states, put together a plan to get manufacturing back to the states then start to execute. Once you bring manufacturing back you start bringing back more opportunity to middle class jobs.

Imagine if Putin publicly supported whoever wins the Dem primary. Literally came out with a public statement of support. Heads would explode.

That's been a phenomenon since the 80s. "You must go to college to succeed" has been a meme for a very long time.

Funny thing is that there actually is a "middle ground" between jobs that require high degrees of education and minimum wage jobs. Think trade jobs like plumbers, electricians, welders, etc. A byproduct of pushing everyone regardless of capability into college is that there's a stigma against those types of jobs, going to a trade school, or even going to a community college. As a result the salaries for those jobs are actually really good not because they are high skill but because people don't really want to do them. There are a ton of hipsters out there that can't find a job with their gender studies degree and are currently working in a coffee shop making minimum wage, but if you suggested trade school to them, they'd look at you as if you had 2 heads. They'll work in a coffeeshop making below minimum wage + tips because it's hip and trendy and complain about how they make no money, but they sure as hell aren't going to consider a trade job because that's what rednecks do.
