2020 Summer Olympics / Tokyo

Oh gosh, the men's 100 meter freestyle was so exciting. I feel so happy for Dressel. I loved Rowdy's reaction: "Welcome to the club!" My favorite Olympic moment so far.

After what felt like a slow start, the US had a great day in swimming. 5 medals. The women's 4x200 was another excellent race. Watch it if you missed it.

Even though this swim team might not be as talented/deep as the previous 12 years, they are doing well. They have 21 medals (6 gold) already, which is far more than 2nd place (Australia - 12 medals, 5 gold).

Former 100 meter Olympic champion Nathan Adrian said the Tokyo pool seems like a slow pool. The water is very choppy during swims. This can be due to a poor drainage system. There are such things as "slow" and "fast" pools. Apparently, the Tokyo pool is pretty slow. This can explain why there's been so few world records so far.

Adrian explains at 3:50 in this video.

Rio is the basically the same time zone. Advertisers would be dumb to think they can get the same numbers. USWNT play at 4 am my time tomorrow. I'm not watching at that time and the result will almost certainly be ruined before I get a chance to watch.
Yeah I remember NBC tried the same thing with other Olympics and it didn't work results always leaked out

Things sure are different from the days without internet.
Was living in Paris France for 6 months back in 1980, my dad and I were watching the miracle on ice.
For whatever reason the broadcast was cut off with about 10 minutes to go and the score tied 3-3 because they changed to regularly scheduled programing. Didn’t know the result until we read it in the paper the next morning.

Yeah but 30 years ago they could get away with it. Nowadays anybody can turn on their phone at 4 am and see live results and not have to wait until that night.

IOC has really screwed up lately with having so many Olympics in Asia where an 11-14 hour difference is a backbreaker for interest in the US Hard to believe that the last Olympics on US soil was 25 years ago and is gonna be another 7 years until LA.

Guess no other choices for them though-they gotta go where the governments will actually pick up the price tag.

Yep totally different world...in 1982 the greatest NCAA upset ever had no video at all to record for history New book chronicles Chaminade's upset of Virginia 37 years ago

That sucks! Except the living in France part. No sympathy for you. 😁

That's what I do, since my wife dropped my 50 inch Smart TV, trying to move it.

I don't have cable with all the streaming services I have. It's not worth the ridiculous price, so I just have a digital antennae. It doesn't always work very well. It's working fine right now, but during the NBA finals, it was struggling a bit.

Yeah, I'm in Rocky Top (Lake City) at a campground, so it's YouTube or nothing, right now

The men’s medley relay in swimming faced a scare. They qualified 7th for the event. Only the top 8 make the final. They put their B team out there for the prelims, which is usually pretty normal. The B team underperformed. Hopefully the A team will win, but it will be strange watching them swim the finals in lane 1. The US has never lost the men’s medley relay at the Olympics.
