2021 College World Series Game Discussion Thread: Bracket 1 and Bracket 2 (excluding Tennessee)

let’s talk about what we don’t know for a second…if it turns out fully tested folks are coming up positive we’ll have not made much progress and it doesn’t jive with real life, right?

Based on what people have posted thus far, one guy got sent home, they played a game with half a team and now they are done, and VU walks into a championship series because they are vaccinated?

Do I have this right?

Just doesnt all make sense. Obviously, we don’t have the full story. Or do we? If truly vaccinated players tested positive, my question is why not test Vandy players just to make sure since they've been around the State players? I need to go to sleep!

As always f those Vandy snobs. I'm done with it and will not watch anymore this season.
Crying coach, overturning the same ruling in a game twice. Whistler and a free pass to the championship game.
I can't believe we've come this far with the " bat flu" just to take away NCS dreams.
That team was probably going to win it all.
F the Vandy boys

Like most COVID-related rules, this doesn’t pass logical muster. If playing the game constitutes contact and is therefore a risk to play if one team has positive tests, then by playing yesterday Vanderbilt was exposed and should be subject to the same testing today. Yet, Vanderbilt isn’t going through the same testing which assumes playing the game doesn’t constitute contact, in which case there isn’t any risk in playing! Makes no sense!

What would have happened if NC State had walked off Vandy yesterday? Would at 3am this morning they be declaring the winner of tonight’s game the national champion? Allow Vandy to move on despite losing? Or would they push the first game out and provide more testing? The CWS already goes potentially 11 days what’s one more? At this point treat like a weather delay.

You know, the more I think about this the more I think NCST should say screw you, we’re playing! And if Vandy had any competitive backbone whatsoever, they’d stand up and support that decision! So 4 vaccinated kids test positive but we tested the team because word got out that they had a few unvaccinated kids? I’m not trying to get political here, but I’m absolutely disgusted at how brain dead we have allowed ourselves to become over something that was in no doubt taken too far, for political gain and now it’s out of control and there ain’t no going back.
Sorry for the rant, I’m just frustrated this morning.
GBO!!

I work in health care. Just a little insight on people who have been vaccinated testing positive. It does happen from time to time (especially with J&J vaccine, which is the appealing vaccine to a lot of younger folks). The difference is the people who test positive after being vaccinated are almost always asymptomatic and, if they happen to show symptoms, don’t become seriously ill. So don’t let this dissuade you from getting vaccinated. The vaccine works. It keeps people out of the hospital, and it keeps people from dying.

Back to baseball, I am absolutely sick about this news. NC State deserved better. But this may well be a cautionary tale from lots of teams — get vaccinated. Don’t take a chance of losing out when a simple vaccination could have prevented it. We had a high school baseball team in our state end up with a similar result. I hope more teams move toward 100 percent vaccination. It’s the quickest way to end this pandemic once and for all.

All players would be considered exposed, as game officials and staff had contact with all four teams.

How could you honestly tell people you won the CWS with this nonsense? I’d be ashamed. The NCAA canceled last year and seriously messed this one up. Just pitiful.
Well Vandy had literally nothing to do with any of this. They lost one of their best starting pitchers to covid nonsense this season, a false positive that ended up costing him the season. They may be the only Sec school to lose a player from this BS.

I get the frustration but you play the games and the teams presented to you. They literally have no choice.

I still stand by my point. Everyone in the Vandy dugout knows they didnt beat a full strength NC state team and they damn sure didn’t do it twice.

I am wrong, apparently the NCAA can test vaccinated players if they believe and outbreak is happening.
Although, it still isn't clear whether Vanderbilt will be held to the same standard since they claim 100% vaccination rate.

All I know is supposedly it’s rare to have vaccinated people test positive but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. Interesting.
