2021 Lady Vol Recruiting Thread

Re: Striplin
IMO a gritty, smart, versatile player - just what is needed to win modern basketball.

Shooting Range ✔️
Toughness ✔️
Rebounding ✔️
Defense ✔️
BB IQ ✔️

Karoline reminds me of Theresa Plaisance but in better shape at this age. Coaches kid who ticks all the right boxes. She was a great player for LSU.

Let's don't forget to praise Karoline's 3 point scoring sidekick, the marvelous Sara Puckett....She's another big girl that can bomb from the deep outside, at the elbow, or down low...."Give her 3!!!!!

Of the four, Sara intrigues me most.
I had a very good close contact re her this HS year and I know that she put nearly all of her effort into trying to make those around her better, She did this in lieu of padding her numbers (which are still very good). Sara is a marksman shooter and a very strong physical presence on drives and defense. She is built fore both speed and power, but also has a ton of basketball savvy. When she gets here, she will bring that "make those around you better" game. This self-sacrifice is something that is rarely noticed

Case in point is Jordan Horston, she dropped her turnovers from 134 last year to 68 this year and very few noticed. And she did this while continuing to have over 100 assists (top 75 in assists in the NCAA). Bettering her to-asst ration from 1.06 to 1.53,,,but who noticed

Just a hunch but I think Horston was having trouble with her shooting wrist. If she can improve her shooting % next year, she will be great.

,but who noticed
Everyone noticed. Which was why nearly everyone said she improved this year over last. But still struggled with shooting and often was not able to get the team into an effective offense. Which is why everyone is begging for a big time transfer PG so that JH can move off the ball where she belongs and maximize her scoring, which will be crucial to helping replace Rennia next season. Can still make assists at that position. Everyone has said all this over and over. Why would anyone pretend its a secret?

becuz we had posters bash her performances repeatedly. she has been blamed for losses on this board and when some were asked would they rather have her transfer their answers were things like “ it wouldn’t matter anyways”

coach jumper is a lot ... however it did seem like their was a lot of negative comments about her. There were others who praised her as well

Whole different thing than not noticing her assist/t.o. ratio was much better, which was what he said. Yep JH got alot of criticism, the kind you would expect on a fan forum from such a highly ranked recruit who still hasn't lived up to her hype. Hype may have been overstated, player may have been over rated, and she still may develop into an impact player (please, please Let It Be.) Saying we wish she'd transfer is stupid, but lots of stupid opinions around here, mine included. Coin of the realm.

Not sure about blaming her directly for any loss, but no question we would have won more if JH were at the point we thought she'd be halfway thru her career.

But we are fully aware of her improved a/t.o. stats. It's a promising start.

I am in no way including you in what i said about blaming her for losses or not recognizing her. But there were some on here that did exactly that.

I think we all expected jordan’s scoring to be more than it is. I don’t think anyone was more disappointed than JH herself.

Players are def always up for criticism but some on this board also refused to acknowledge the fact she was dealing with injuries all season as well but chose to play for her team.

We have posters who only acknowledge what they want everyone to believe..... which is not always the truth. Jordan dealt with several issues including COVID and still found a way to play for her team. To me, that was her most significant contribution....her unconditional dedication to the Lady Vols. Shame on those who used her injuries to further their agenda.

Thanks for the video Volfan....It's just GREAT!!!!

Karoline looks like a ball player; a damn good/great looking basketball player....She has big shoulders, solid base, great arc on her 3 ball, extremely high basketball IQ....She is going to shut up a lot of Kellie detractors....

It looks like she is no stranger to the weight room. She is coming in with a D1 upper body.

I always appreciate Jordan and she will be a superstar that she always was. Her defense is A+

and now running track to further her stamina and footspeed,,,what a gal!

I hear ya Rickster...Jordan dealt with issues that only her coach, she, her mom and close individuals know of. I only hope she has the drive to stay in lieu of the negavols who didn't support her and prove them wrong. The summer will be much needed for her to rebuild...I predict that she and Kaiya will make a back-court that will be enviable for a lot of teams

Great points but let me add that it is only small subset of individuals who embody negavolism in every sense of the word who kept hammering on Jordan Horston. As a PG she is still a work in progress (which is not that atypical for a sophomore) but she showed clear signs of improvement in her decision making this year. Her defensive efforts were consistently stellar. Her offensive game has sky is the limit potential but needs to refinement. Give her a consistent mid-range jump shot and she will be unstoppable next year. Super happy that she will be in orange next season. I am confident she will lay her doubters to waste.

agree that it is a small subset, but they are the "wheel's that squeak the loudest" and sadly, the most.

This forum has become a 2nd home for connie, SC, Rutger, etc., fans... and those parents and athlete's who do make the mistake of looking in don't know which ones are true fans and which ones are trolls. I have/will tell the recruits I am in touch with to avoid this site and will continue to do so until/unless it becomes what it is supposed to be,,,Per the rules of this site:

"This forum is for fans of the Lady Vols. It isn't for debate over the legitimacy of women's basketball or for comparisons to the men's game. If you enjoy the Lady Vols and enjoy discussing the program, this forum is for you. Otherwise, please refrain from posting. Posters who are 'trolling' and/or disrespectful risk having their account suspended."

I realize that fans are going to be negative sometimes. Heck, no one is as tough on the coach as I am and I realize this. But I try not to ever make it personal or disrespect the coach and I am certainly known for defending (or "white-knighting) our players and recruits when they warrant it. And it has cost me. . . The last attack like the one from VB09 was as brutal as any I have gotten over the years. Worse yet it was witnessed by a potential recruit and her family. But the thank you I received from them, versus the insignificant key-board-warriors that dealt it,,,there is no comparison as to which is more important to me.

The counter post move with the left hand baby hook at the 1:40 mark has me SO excited. I haven’t seen an actual COUNTER post move from our post in YEARS, that skill set for a post player is SO important.

Even though these recruits aren’t ranked as high as we want them to be, I really believe they’re an all around SOLID recruiting class, nothing to hang our heads about.

@LadyVols_WBK this clip says at least striplin will be there in may

I have been harping this for years....Tamari needs a jumphook to the right with a reverse-pivot fadeaway to the left as a counter and if she could hit both, with her height, she would be undefendable.

Guys, I remember when Striplin committed....I went a little nuts with joy with frenetic posting about the young lady.......I was all over this forum talking about what a star this girl was going to be; and she has been all I have anticipated.

Her HS career has been exemplary, with awards and congratulations from many friends and admires.....There is not one player, that is an incoming freshmen on any team, that I would rather have as a Lady Vol, than Karoline Striplin...

She is exactly what this team needs...It's as if the tumblers of good fortune have all slid into the right slots, for the Lady Vols to challenge all of women's college basketball...

And then when Justine and her friends get here, Mama Mia, it's going to be EPIC!!!

Spot on. It’s old school, but it works. There is a reason this is still around! I’m a lefty and my coach taught me the jump hook in 6th grade. Became a staple. If you really work at it you can go block to block. If you’ve got the short fade from one direction and the baby hook in the other you’re unstoppable. Even if you’re not that athletic it’s very tough to defend, speaking from experience lol.

With her height and athelticism those two little moves would put her in a league of her own.
