2021 Lady Vol Recruiting Thread

I would have thought that Key and Rivers would have narrowed their list by now.
I'm thinking that Key and Rivers both have offers from the same schools as Azzi, perhaps they are waiting to see where she goes with the hope of joining with her. Azzi is a generational talent that can transform a program and many players would love to play with her. Both players are solid in their offers and don't have to worry that they will be recruited over, so why not wait.

It's interesting that now in 2 consecutive years we are seeing players that are considered generational whereas in the past the came along every 5 years or so.

If 2 players in consecutive classes are considered "generational talents", then they're really not. Even every five years. Breanna was a generational talent. So was Sabrina. So is Paige. So is Azzi...

I think that's the most overused lexicon in describing the impact players will have. Can't we just call them "really good players"?

Aside from the oxymoronic ramifications of calling multiple playets within the same time frame "generational" talents, there's also the lasting impact upon the game and/or their teams to consider. Players such as Holdsclaw, Taurasi, Parker, Moore, and Stewart led their teams to multiple championships. Ionescu and Griner had skill sets that were transformative for the game, yet neither were so dominant that they brought home multiple championships (and Oregon was just one of the favorites this year despite having three first-round draft picks). It's the reason that Russell, Bird, Johnson, Jabbar, Bryant, and Jordan are more highly-regarded than Chamberlain, for instance.

As Jim says, JMO.

ZOOMTIME: Ashley junior Saniya Rivers

A month ago, Rivers still had plans to take visits to some schools when things get back to normal. With players committing early than expected due to the pandemic, I wonder is holding out and waiting to commit in the fall the prudent thing to do. I guess with players the caliber of Fudd and Rivers isn't going to matter.

” Rivers said. “I need at least one coach on the coaching staff that I can run to with my problems when I can’t run to my parents about it... Obviously, a team that I feei like I can fit into with my skill set. Where will I fit in this basketball program? Can i take this program to the next level?

This is what was missing with the CHW staff
The right words

So we have the power to scare recruits off? Do we also have the power to get them to sign? And to select coaches?

As I have said before, any recruit who would allow anonymous posters to prevent them from attending a school they love will struggle mentally, no matter where they go.
Select coaches? Darth says hello Coach Walz! Select players? If only.
If 2 players in consecutive classes are considered "generational talents", then they're really not.
Or as my kids constantly remind me, you can only have one "pet peeve." If you are accumulating a new pet peeve every day, you may need therapy.

Great point that the generational title should be withheld until actual results occur. Once again we are confusing potential with actual, measurable, knowable on court talent. No one knows this more than us long suffering LV fans. We are painfully aware that recruiting accolades do not come with guarantees.

I find the Key situation so interesting. Entirely possible she might want to go her own way, not play with her sis, etc. (Was going to say maybe its like married people who don't want to work together, but then Jon Harper said hello.) Wouldn't be unusual, nor in any way KJHs fault or anything she has control over. BUT, if we don't get her its going to look like, and definitely be spun as, a KJH fail. Not fair, but you know other recruiters will use it against her, espec. after the Jaz and Zaay departures. I also like her as a player alot so Key will be the focus of my recruiting wish list for now.

I so agree with you on this. Generational talent? Bah!

I like “impact player”. Maybe....lol.

Do you think 'really good' is sufficient. How about program changers or perhaps 'coach elevators' to designate their unique effect in WBB

It depends, because as much as has to do with the surrounding pieces as it does the player itself. No one will deny that Elena Delladonne was a "program changer", but she played for UD and they weren't going anywhere because the team wasn't talented enough outside of her. Would Breanna still be a "program changer" if she went to Syracuse? There are a lot of "really good" or "great" players that would have been viewed through a different lens if they went to a different school.

As of today I would be more than shocked if Sara Puckett doesn’t end up a Lady Vol. I am crystal balling her to Tennessee. Georgia is putting up a fight, but Striplin has a huge reason Sara will wear orange!

This is great news! Guess we won’t have any commitments this week, but will be great to get momentum rolling after the dead period.

BTW looks like UGA could have a big class this year as well!

Have any more crystal ball predictions? (UT, UGA, or otherwise)

I wonder if the recruit decisions have been made or if some players are still evaluating schools. With the virus still prevalent and social distancing rules still in place,
is there anything left to consider?

I still feel Azzi is the key. Some players have offers from the same schools she is considering. If possible, there are some that will follow her. Others don't want to be recruited over, so there are waiting to make sure they will have playing time. This may be a chain that runs through several layers of player. Once Azzi commits, we may see the dam burst.

Who knows, Azzi may wait until the 11th hour to make a decision.

I would take Key, Wynn, Striplin, Puckett, and Miles in a second. Thats a very solid top 5 class!!

An excellent class

But don't expect too much movement for this month,,,because, per a google search...:

The NCAA has extended the current recruiting dead period to May 31st, the organization announced today. "The Division I Council Coordination Committee and the Division II Administrative Committee extended the recruiting dead period through May 31

That would be a great class. Top 5 no doubt. Hollingshead and Shavers are also interested and would be welcomed additions as well. Id any 6 of the ladies previously interested along with Rivers

Shavers is definitely in the mix still. Rivers is a very long shot at this time
