2021 Lady Vol Recruiting Thread

Top-30 2021 WBB prospect Aubryanna “Bree” Hall, 6-0 G, Huber Heights Wayne HS (OH), has announced her commitment to South Carolina; her other finalists were Kentucky, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Texas

This is a top 20-50 talent ? Will she stay home at Ohio ? There not so strong lately ? Pass UK .... they have a lot of guards and transfers coming on ??? UT has a need for guards ? Could she get into Stanford? A lot of teams to pass getting to Texas or Miss.State ? We will know soon !🤷‍♂️

Yes. No. They who? They who again? There is always a need for quality guards. Athletic wise yes academic ask her guidance counselor. Besides those two there were 5 others. Yes USC was the answer 😃

We've got a top 2 in Jordan Horston for 3 more years,,,
and by the way, you remember a player named Rennia Davis, she was a number 12 and look how she turned out

Seems to me while good, Davis is about at the level her ranking suggested. A consensus number two would typically have a bigger impact even in year one than JH last year. I still think a top 3-5 next cycle is what we need to see to be confident of getting back to nationally relevant.

Most recruits want to play for a winning program ! But USC has a few guards !

2021 year ....
Henderson
Littleton
Cooke
Thompson
Beal
Russell
Rivers ???

Bree. Just saying?

Henderson and Littleton will be seniors when the 2021's are freshmen. Thompson is a practice player, so she might as well not count. That leaves Cooke/Russell as the PGs, with SG/SF minutes to be split between Beal, Rivers and Hall. Maybe they do some small-ball and play Beal at the PF. This is all fine and dandy, but if they got some PF recruits coming in for 2021 (Feagin, Hollingshead?), then it gets dicey.

I predict that it will be a survival of the fittest game, with a transfer or two in the future. Probably between Russell and whichever 2021 PG they get.

Just for the record, since you obviously know so little about LV history, we have had highly ranked players and didn't utilize or coach them up enough. Contending for championships is more than star ratings. I read your whopping 13 posts and I am beginning to doubt your fanship authenticity.

I agree .... Bree will get on the floor when she is a Sophomore !!! ?? Or a Junior after Beal graduates ? Unless they sign another top two guard like Rivers or maybe a top wing like Teonni ? Just saying

I guess Dawn sold her on her not being recruited over ? No coach would do that !!!😁

I don't believe in the concept of "over recruiting" as some cardinal sin. Every coach will try to get the best player at any position that is interested, and let the chips fall where they may. Tess, Marta and Destiny haven't even played a game yet, but Kellie is looking to grab the best 2021 wings that she can, and she would be crazy not to. Let the players figure it out, and if someone decides they want to go someplace for more minutes, then that's up to them.

Russell will play a lot she is the real deal. Beal will still be able to play the 4 even if we land a 2021 Big because Grissett will be a senior next year and Saxton is a junior so the minutes will be there. I suspect with the amount of big guards we’ll likely have Dawn will play a little small at times and use their versatility.

That‘s a poor assumption. I’m pretty good with the history. Not posting on this board means nothing in terms of being a fan. Sorry if a slightly different POV offends you. But, I entered the discussion with Coach.

Since Coach was announced, I'll chime in

Judging by the names above her and what she did compared to them,,,she has well exceeded her ranking

I agree with you that all coaches want the best players they can get . But surely you are not comparing Hall with our 2020 recruits/players ? 🤔

I respect that POV. She was the go to and 18/8 is solid. So is the FT percent though sub 30% from 3 is disappointing. I was basing more on the eye test but she certainly isn’t the issue. Being better at the 5, athleticism in the role Brown played and now getting good play at the point are needs imo.

Hall has more creds coming in, but at the end of the day, they are all recruits who have to earn their minutes against the players a class ahead of them, in their same class, and those coming up behind them. Having depth at the wing won't stop Kellie from pursuing the best players at that position, just like Dawn's not going to be telling Azzi Fudd "no thanks" because she already has some other pretty good recruits locked in. Ultimately, it all becomes a game of "survival of the fittest". Nothing is guaranteed.

My thoughs as of May 26 on recruiting the uncommitted players. I have no knowledge of mutual interest or even curiosity.

Baylor, Louisville, Oregon, Notre Dame, UConn, South Carolina are the top Tier Schools where the best players are attracted and recruited. The rosters of the top tier schools do not collectively have many openings. Factoring in playing time available also impacts decision-making for uncommitted players.

The LVs are trying to secure being recognized as second-tier to recruits seeking although recent records make it difficult. Texas and Miss State (coaching changes), Maryland, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Stanford, can recruit on recent records and I consider them second -tier and perhaps, Syracuse, NC State, UNC, UCLA, Oregon State and others.

If an uncommitted high school player has a dream to play in the Final Four and she is looking at universities where that is realistically possible the LVs would be as of May 26 be on that short list. My scenario would be that the LVs determine the best available players (point guards) following visits in late summer/fall. Waiting and having three excellent commitments has the best probability of attracting one or two of the best available remaining players.

My thoughts is this was eloquently put and well said.
