Not in a traditional sense, no. He grabs rebounds and takes up space but if I have quick guards I'm getting him in a high PnR every time. They've come up with a good workaround where guys rotate to help protect the rim but that means they give up more 3's. Mitchell scored 36 ppg in the playoff feasting on their troubles with the high screen. Just seems like an insurmountable ceiling for him and his teams.
Jokic's season thus far is a better MVP case based on those stats. I can figure out who the one on the right is just by looking at his stats, and IDK what to make of ORtg and DRtg...105 is a better defensive rating than 27 teams, so what does that even mean? Probably nothing. Also, FT's should be considered here. Those shooting margins are huge but when you look at TS%, Jokic still has him, but it's only by .032.
I had Lebron as MVP in 2018, btw, but seeing a guard win MVP with bad D is pretty common. It doesn't surprise me. Nash, Iverson, Curry, and Harden have all done it. And Westbrook can play D but it's not like he was slapping the floor in 2017. For whatever reason, guards can get away with it. In the last 25 years, Dirk is the only non-guard MVP who wasn't really good at D.
