2021 Target List

Actually just 1 Junior, but 6 sophomores

SR: Fulk, Anosike, Pons
JR: Bailey
SO: Plavsic, James, Vescovi, ORN, Gaines, Pember
FR: Springer, Johnson, Walker

Yea, Plavsic is convoluted. A year at ASU, didn't play. Transfers mid-year without sitting out. I don't know if TN has to formally apply for an extra year or not. Sometimes he's listed as a 2019-20 Sophomore. The NCAA is inconsistent and unpredictable.

Seems a bit naive to think they all fulfill their eligibility at Tennessee

Still high probability of 5 or more spots to fill in 2023. 5 or 6 in the current class and KJ, JS, JJJ, or other spots could be filled by transfers or JUCOs. Even departures from the rising sophomores could be filled by players with equivalent eligibility.

Not convoluted at all...he went to ASU and redshirt 2018-2019, after the year he transferred to Tennessee, not mid-year...enrolled as a redshirt freshman and that’s what he was listed as on the Tennessee roster. He will be a redshirt sophomore this upcoming season, nothing has to be applied for, everyone gets a redshirt year to use.

Point being it’s impossible to project this far out, Pember and/or Gaines or even ORN taking a redshirt changes that picture up.

I added BHH to the list as he’s expected to reclassify, and I definitely think Tennessee would be in full support of that.

Also, NCAA extended dead period through July 31st, that pretty much will put a bow on any live periods for AAU season. IMO that’s going to mean a lot of guys are going to focus on the schools that have been there, and not many new offers will go out like you usually would see this time of year. As long as there is CFB and students on campus I would expect OV’s to be allowed, but definitely going to be a case where getting guys on campus as juniors and having some early work put in could be huge.

Banchero, Smith and Chandler have all officially visited Tennessee. BHH, Ingram, and John Butler have all previously UOV’d to Tennessee.
Huntley 4 and Paolo 5?

*currently in the class of ‘22, but is expected to reclassify into ‘21 class
This is insane that we are in good to really good shape with at least 3 of the top 10. When we hired Barnes, I thought we’d land a guy here and there from this pool of talent, but I didn’t envision multiple 5 stars per year type of recruiting. It doesn’t appear that he’s going back to the 3-star build ‘em up strategy.

Any more talk on his possible transfer to a Knoxville school?

More like 4 out of the top 10 and 5 out of the top 13

One new name in the 2022 Class that Tennessee is starting to get deeply involved with is Caleb Houstan, a 6-foot-8 forward at Montverde Academy in Florida. Originally from Canada, he’s a long, versatile forward and currently ranked the No. 5 player in the 2022 class.
Tennessee will have some ties to this recruitment through assistant coach Des Oliver, who is from Buffalo and is wired into the Canadian basketball scene through contacts in that area. Houstan is also a strong candidate to move into the 2021 class.

I would guess there won’t be much movement there until all this is over

It's going to be a horrible year for any student who is "new" to a school. Meeting and making friends will be filled with obstacles. Manditory masks will make identification difficult, lunchtime will be done 6 feet apart so conversations will be limited, and with no physical contact allowed, all the casual rites of male bonding, horseplay, etc. will be verbotten.

I guess now all the Emo kids will be normal.

Bradley Huntley-Hatfield, who is the #6 player in the 2022 class out of Clarksville, is expected to announce his college commitment and decision to reclassify up to 2021 on his birthday in January and he has a bevy of Tennessee connections. He has played with Bobby Maze’s BMaze Elite AAU program for several years and also played with Tennessee freshman guard Jaden Springer at IMG Academy this past season. He has unofficially visited Tennessee a few times over the past couple years. Despite all these connections, Kentucky is the team to beat.

Huntley-Hatfield has called the Wildcats his dream school and been to Lexington multiple times. He is also the cousin of former UK forward Alex Poythress. He is the only 2022 prospect the Cats have offered and is clearly a top priority for Calipari and Co. Don’t count the Vols all the way out though, as he has been living in Knoxville and training with Maze and several of his AAU teammates at Maze’s Knoxville facility during the pandemic and there is a strong possibility he will play his HS basketball in Knoxville this winter. Tennessee is expected to ratchet things up in a big way in this recruitment and a UK/UT battle for a top 5 overall player playing his HS basketball in Knoxville could be on the horizon.
