No idea on that one.

Senzel needs to stay away from 1st if he wants to maximize his draft $.

After the summer, Nick had in the Cape, his draft stock will be just fine. He made himself a lot of money swinging a wooden bat against the best amateur pitchers in the world.

Oh yes I was pumping that Pom Pom all summer but big difference in the amount of $ if he is a 1st baseman. His power isn't elite enough to be a 1-2 round guy as a 1st baseman IMO

Serrano also said junior Nick Senzel, who was named the MVP of the Cape Cod League this summer, may move from second base to third base.

Read this today. Link is below. Makes sense. I think he played third almost his whole time in the Cape.

Dave Serrano says Vols not broken, but ‘needs to be fixed’ - GoVolsXtra Story

Unfortunate comment there, not broken but needs to be fixed...uh...

Yeah, Senzel played 3B, some 1B, but mostly 3B this summer and made the Cape All Star game as a 3rd baseman...that was a weak spot for us at the beginning of last season and we went through a mighty tough time because of it...we have a slew of guys that can play second...SS and 1B are question marks.

That's a valid point. His athletic ability allows him to play 2B and both corner positions in the infield. He's really a good athlete and one of the fastest guys on the team. His versatility will be another plus at draft time.

I noticed Tyler Halas from Chicago is not on the roster. It appears he will try to go the JUCO route at Palm Beach State, which is where we picked up RHP Jon Lipinski. Maybe we'll see Halas down the line.

Thanks for keeping up with this Burger, one of these days we might get it sticky-ed.:)

I haven't been able to update it for awhile. I'll get it done tonight western time. I'm a huge Serrano and vol fan, and he'll get it done.

Somebody asked about the recruiting ranks a while back and how much of a hit we'd take due to the MLB draft. The following link is PG's updated rankings for each conference.

A couple of important notes, if one takes the time to look down the entire list of schools and how many kids the schools took you will notice that the 7 we got is a very low number, not just compared to the SEC, but everyone.

Also, like recruiting rankings in football they have a "quality" rank and that rank would put us at 5th in the conference, but because we have so few we take a big hit.

It's also a little misleading because they don't update the individual player PG Top 100 Ranks, if you look at their new top 350 (2nd link) for 2015 we have 2 players in the Top 100, but they use the old overall number.

Just a couple of things to keep in mind before the meltdown.:)

I've always thought we should hit the juco trail to soften the impact of the draft. Also, are any of the current commits a reflection of the Simcox hirer?

We picked up 5 JUCO's in this class, Max Bartlett, Lino Ramirez, Matt Waldren, Jon Lipinski and Dathan Prewett. The last four of those were all picked up after the draft.

The 2015 class was assembled long before Coach Simcox arrived, whether he had any input on those four JUCO's I have no idea. In fact, the 2016 class is largely already assembled, of course, things change.

By my count we have 10 former JUCO's/Lower Division players, which makes up 55% of our juniors and seniors and just under 30% (28.5%) of what will be the roster if they all remain.

I don't have much of an opinion but I think a survey of the successful SEC programs would prove those numbers high, but it is where we are I guess.

I look for a more aggressive approach at the plate under Simcox. Not sure who will play first or catcher. With Schultz back I guess it's a 3 man race for catcher.

Certainly a few question marks, 1B, SS, LF, if Senzel moves to 3B then 2B is also a question and obviously the hitting is a big question mark as well as the pitching rotation, but I agree with you, Simcox makes me feel a bit better than if we'd maintained the status quo.

My hope is the addition of new blood will give the team a new lease on life and improve the chemistry which seemed "off" to me last season.

Carson Pack 2016 out of Anderson Co., is no longer listed as a Tennessee commit at PG.
