With the addition of Simcox, I would expect a 2 year extension.

Yesterday in the D1 weekly chat with Kendall Rodgers I asked:

What are your expectations for Tennessee Baseball this season and Coach Serrano’s future?

KR: Clearly, the Vols need to make some noise in 2016. Many thought Serrano was on the chopping block after the past season, but smartly, the Vols decided to give him another year. I still think Serrano is a terrific coach who hasn’t completely found his niche at Tennessee. With that said, with Martin, Kyle Serrano, Andy Cox, and others, and the rise of Nick Senzel over the summer, the foundation is there to really surprise some people after a year of disappointment (everyone thought the Vols would take a step forward). Struggle in 2016, and I do believe you will see movement over there.

Then later in the Chat he was asked this:

Thoughts on how the SEC East will shake down this year? Rank 1-7

KR: Subject to change, and don’t hold my hand to the fire on this, but 1) Florida, 2) Vanderbilt 3) South Carolina 4) Kentucky 5) Missouri 6) Georgia 7) Tennessee.

I think CDS will have to make the NCAA tourney this season to keep his job and that will require a monumental effort. It could happen, I hope it happens but to say expectations nationally are low would be an understatement. We have to remember, CDS is not a Hart hire, and he's in the final year of his contract.

A 7th place finish would be great. I don't see it happening

A 1 year contract is a recruiting death sentence.

I don't disagree with that but you said he might be the best recruiter on campus.

Barnes and jones are elite recruiters and there hasn't been a contract renewal here for a reason

Just bring this topic back around to the original header...this week is Jupiter PG WS. Most all 2016 recruits are going to be there...a lot of pre-write ups on the 2016 Vols. I think PG does another ranking on the players after the fall! If so will be interesting to see where they all stand!

From D1 Baseballl.com as they are discussing the H.S. players at the Perfect Game event in Jupiter over the weekend........

• Andrew Schultz (Alpharetta, Ga.) showed off one of the best pure arms on display in Jupiter, and although he’ll need to refine his command, he’s certainly an arm to monitor closely. The 6-foot-4 Tennessee commit has an extra quick arm and came out blazing at 93-95 mph in his Sunday Jupiter outing. And this is not new for Schultz, as he’s hit 96 mph in the past. He flashed solid two-plane depth on a 78 mph slider, but his secondaries and his command of them will need to progress.

Tre Carter, Luc and Andre Lupcius, Justin Ammons, Andrew Schultz, Brandon Chinea, Conner Darling, Zach Linginfelter, Jay Charleston, Garrett Stallings, Will Heflin, and Pete Derkay, all signed with UT Baseball today. Welcome aboard gentleman!

Linginfelter was also named to D1's 2016 top 50 HS prospects today.

The class is currently ranked 16th by PG before the high school season begins.

GBO!!!

Besides Linginfelter, who is a risk to the draft?

I agree with Showme on Schultz. This time last year we expected we'd lose Chris Betts and probably Ke'Bryan Hayes to the draft and ended up losing Cabbage and Davila too because they came on their senior seasons.

If all 16 guys committed signed yesterday it's CDS' largest class and you can tell by the overall grade that he's trying to minimize losses to the draft. Baseball recruiting is really a difficult deal comparatively speaking to other sports.

According to the KNS Duncan Pence also signed yesterday. Will Heflin will have Tommy Johns Surgery, will not throw his senior season but might be able to bat, same deal Andrew Lee did his freshman year at UT.

Certainly a few question marks, 1B, SS, LF, if Senzel moves to 3B then 2B is also a question and obviously the hitting is a big question mark as well as the pitching rotation, but I agree with you, Simcox makes me feel a bit better than if we'd maintained the status quo.

My hope is the addition of new blood will give the team a new lease on life and improve the chemistry which seemed "off" to me last season.

New blood...:good!: Sure hope the chemistry is better, also. IMHO it seemed to become worth after the 2nd part to the end of the season. People in doghouses, disruptive dugout, etc. I am looking forward to this season and am pulling for Coach Serrano and Coach Simcox can make it fun for all of us.

GBO!
