has anyone seen any of these commits play this spring? I saw Pence a few weeks ago. Did very good in the field the game I watched. Hoping to catch the Alcoa and Sevier county pitchers in the next week or two. Understand that Heflin is only a DH this spring.

Finally made it to Alcoa to watch the Walsh kid pitch. WOW! he was really good. I wasn't really expecting to see the speed and control combo. I assumed he was going to be more of a junk thrower but he was over powering a pretty good Knox Catholic team. Pitched a complete game shut out with 14 Ks and don't remember any walks
. Never really even challenged and kept them off balance all night. Talked to a KCHS dad and he said they had seen a bunch of really good pitchers this season but he was by far the best they had seen. Also, noticed several scouts (i assume) with guns.

Hope to get to Sevier Co sometime next week.

I am guessing these three plus Garrett Stallings and Conner Darling, both RHPs. Outside shot on Andrew Shultz, another hard throwing RHP.

Anyone know what kind of spring Schultz is having?

I'm surprised his national PG ranking is a low as it was (34 among RHP's) after the 95's and 96's he threw last fall.

He pitched a complete game about a month ago...2-0, 2.12 ERA, 29.2 IP, 14 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 16 BB, 40 SO, 5 WP, 5 HBP, #P 483

Stats are from Max Preps, don't know how up to date they are.

Command issues looking at those stats

I checked out Zach Linginfelter this week vs Seymour and was NOT disappointed. He did great and impressed me and the 20+ scouts that were there to watch him. From the guns I was able to see, he was consistently over 90mph. Had pretty good off speed stuff too but probably still has some work to do there. However, when you have his FB with all the run it seemed to have, you can probably get by until the off speed stuff is better developed. After seeing the number of scouts in attendance I don't feel too confident that he will ever wear the orange. Hope I am wrong! After seeing the two local kids in person, Walsh and Linginfelter, I feel great about the future. The sentinel had an article saying Walsh's era is 0.54 and he has had 40 Ks in the last 3 games! Two kids that can pitch and throw STRIKES! :dance2:

Saw Trammell on Tuesday night for the first time since an early season scrimmage. Physically he has all of the tools, and his swing is solid. Doubled twice to the wall, once in right center and once in dead center. Going to be a great prospect. I have my doubts that he ever gets to college baseball, and even if he does end up at UT the question is who will be the head coach he is playing for.

Thanks! I haven't seen him this year. Pics look like he has bulked up quite a bit since last year too. Have you seen Bass Cooper at Central yet? Those are two big 'ol sophomores. Hopefully they both will make it to campus one of these days. Now, Serrano needs to find a way to get Ryder Green away from UK. That would make a solid base of 2018 power hitters.

In baseball recruiting there is very little "stealing" of recruits that goes on.

It would be a interesting approach if a new coach is hired if he came in with the approach that he is going to recruit the kids committed elsewhere. That would ruffle some feathers but would seem appropriate to me

Yes. I've seen Cooper twice this season, and with mixed reviews.

First game he pitched and got the win and was 2-3 with a double.

Second game - next day - he was 0-3 and looked pretty ordinary at the plate, albeit against last year's pitcher of the year in the district (who will likely also get that honor again this year when those are released).

Cooper has the physical tools and good size. The one area he needs to work on, and I don't think this is any surprise to anybody including himself, is with his foot speed. Otherwise I can see his potential as an upper D1 level guy.

Good prospect, still young and developing his skills.

I'm told by some folks close to the situation that UT never did approach Green prior to his commitment to UK. I don't know Green, but I don't think his family is from this area, so there is not likely any "home town" school allegiance.

The kid is a player, however. And still just finishing up his sophomore year. Got a really bright future in front of him.

They actually are from the area and that is what makes it even more baffling to me. I doubt that he ever makes it to UK since he will probably be a high draft pick but I would have been all over him if I was the Vols.

You are right and I don't really understand why. I wonder if it is a "gentleman's agreement" among BB coaches or something. Sure doesn't apply to other college sports though. I wonder if there is a coaching change if the UT commits will be open game for other schools or if the agreement stands?

Good questions

Basketball is somewhat the same as far as a gentlemans agreement goes

I sit corrected, then. I was told that they were midwesterners, from Chicago maybe?

But like I said, I don't know them myself.

He really is an outstanding prospect.

Dad is originally from Blount County and now teaches at Oak Ridge. Not sure about mom.

I noticed Linginfelter has fallen to #90 on Baseball America's top 100 MLB draft prospects. I'm sure he goes still, but he fell a few spots.

MLB.com has him at #93.
