2022 Target List

The Traore comment is odd. Like VQ doesn’t think we can recruit against LSU? Guess the strong aressed offers are too much to overcome
I think it basically means that if Traore seriously considers LSU that he’s probably looking for some extra benefits which is something Tennessee won’t mess with. Been very few kids with both LSU & Tennessee on their short list.

In the era of NIL, what extra benefits -aside from drugs and women - can LSU provide that Tennessee can’t.

Didn’t the NIL start after the 2021 class signed making it the recruiting tool for the 2022 and later classes?

I would guess anybody who had obtained their wealth legally and was willing to pony up (NCAA illegal) cash to a recruit in the past could now figure out a way to do it NCAA legally via the NIL. Maybe there are more rich crazy LSU fans than rich crazy UT fans such that LSU will win any NIL battles against UT?

How many players around CBB do you currently see with 6 figure NIL deals? For reference, our 5 star #1 ranked in state PG has a $10k NIL deal.
Maybe not one six figure deal, but maybe 2-3 deals. As for Kennedy Chandler, I saw that reported as a "five figure deal." Maybe you have better info, but that could be anywhere from $10K to $99K. And, maybe that's not the end of Kennedy's deals. Who's to say he won't get another 5 figure shoe deal, for example.

I find it interesting no one has commented on the Jett Howard visit. I remember when some on this board were decrying the phone calls as a waste of time, even when it was just a low level video producer as his lead recruiter.

Well….we’ve landed an official visit, and while he likely doesn’t commit here getting him on campus is pretty big. Feels like we’re the only school not named Michigan recruiting him. He might value that and make a surprise decision. Could be cool!

It’s still a waste of time

No, it’s really not. We put a video producer as his lead recruiter. I don’t see how a few phone calls here or there by a guy who isn’t going to be recruiting any of the true top prospects is a waste of time.

I mean…that’s fine. He’s still going to Michigan lol. The fact a video producer is his lead recruiter shows you how serious they actually believe they can get him.

It’s assumed he’ll go to Michigan, and sure he likely will, but you don’t know what the kid is thinking. It says something that he feels compelled enough to visit Tennessee. Maybe he changes his mind and decides to chart his own course instead of just play for dad. Exerting minimal resources and landing an official visit seems well worth it to me.

If Howard signs with Tennessee I will gladly concede I was wrong.

Until then, it’s still a waste of time lol

I'm all for getting as big names on campus as possible. We are in a place now where BJ Edwards is likely going to be towards the bottom half of our recruiting class ranking wise, when 3 years ago he would have been the star of the class.

It’s not a bad thing to be a 5-star’s second choice. Especially with today’s chronic transferring. If things fall apart at their first choice then you are in a good spot as the original #2. Plus the 5* should be well connected and they could speak highly of and generate goodwill for #2. It’s certainly not a waste of time. It is short sighted to suggest that it is.

I really don't think transferring will be as prevalent after this year now that the instant eligibility is no longer on the table. I think a 5 star would be more likely to go pro then have to sit out a year.

Guilty as charged, but unless his dad leaves Michigan then I still don’t see why. But 30 years back I never imagined a bunch of old people riding Harleys nor folks paying money to buy water in plastic bottles.

Is instant eligibility no longer an option? I thought it was almost a given now?

Huh? The rule was passed that they don’t have to sit out.
