The NCAA passed a one time transfer rule where you don’t have to sit out
Key words "one time" and it's over after July 1st, 2021. I'm just saying this past year was an outlier for transfers and kids will think more carefully about transferring.

Yup, and as a follow-up it was the father of a current UT baseball player who pointed this out on the baseball forum, so I figured he knew the details.

One time means one time in your collegiate career, not as in one time as a specialty for 2021…the deadline dates for future years are even discussed.

The transfer rule will allow all college athletes, including football and men’s basketball players, to transfer one time and receive immediate eligibility. Currently, all but five sports operate under such a system. This would likely take effect immediately, sources said. “The genie’s been out of the bottle on this for a while now,” one said.

The Council also approved notification dates for those transferring. In normal years, there will be a May 1 notification date for fall/winter athletes to tell their school they are leaving and a July 1 deadline for spring athletes.

NCAA 1-time transfer rule clears final hurdle

The NCAA Division I Board of Directors ratified a rule change Wednesday that will allow all athletes who have not yet transferred the ability to do so one time in a college career and be immediately eligible to play.

Now it will be available to all athletes who have not yet transferred, starting with the 2021-22 academic year.

Yeah, I’m not sure why people are reading so much into the July 1st, 2021 deadline. That is specifically for the upcoming academic year. As in, if you transfer now, you will have to sit out this year. But if you transfer after your season is over but before July 1st, 2022 you are instantly eligible for your next season.

It’s one free transfer for all students moving forward. Not just this year.

I think that the “one time” RULE that is confusing the matter is that players get a year of eligibility back just this one time. The NCAA will be taken to court if they restrict players from moving around looking for their best opportunity.

N-I-L will keep them moving around. Little fish in big ponds not getting playing time and deals will look for more exposure at lesser programs.

Maybe we’re talking Pons shot out of a cannon on blocks or Keon shot out of a cannon on dunks?

Guess it depends on the kid. If I were in the position I’d enjoy visiting with another prospect and talking about teaming up, but some may prefer the undivided attention like you said
BJ Edwards postponed him after befriended Dillon Mitchell in Vegas so they would have the same visit date
