A sixth-straight non-winning season, even with some improvements against the 2022 season, was not enough for Dewayne Alexander to get a seventh season at Tennessee Tech.

That's a tough job right now with UTM and Peay playing at a high level........Not the greatest recruiting area around Cookeville either.
Of all the old OVC teams........I never hated Tech or TSU.

I respect Walden enough to not want him to coach another SEC team.
He is a great coach.
Those kids were giving 100% for him and their team.

Two coaches I don't want hired by any other SEC team are Lance Leipold and Walden.
I think Leipold is one of the best coaches in the USA, and Walden has a high ceiling too.

We had that kind of enthusiasm (like APSU this season) last season.
The VOLS have looked too subdued this year. We don't have an edge and make too many mistakes.
The team needs some players to keep them pumped.
Heupel really stands up for his players with the officials, but I don't notice a lot of enthusiasm on the bench. We need more positive energy (can't think of a better term) on the sideline.

I always feel like emotional leaders emerge more easily on a team with great depth. It is easier for near peers that will sub in and out during the game to show strong emotion on the bench than it is for players that are not going to play.

A total lateral move on paper. Stoops teams always lacked the 4 & 5 stars but competed well, winning 10 games a couple times in what - 11 years? Would be interesting to see what he could do with some bought players. Still has to be incredibly underwhelming for A&M.

It's wild to pay something like $90+ million (including staff buyouts) for Mark Stoops. Not that he's a horrible coach, but I'm sure their fans/boosters were looking for a superstar hire.

The only thing I find comical....is A&M says a few weeks back this IS NOT an 8-4 type program... Yet go hire an 8-4 type guy... Also I feel like stylistically he's very similar to Jimbo.... Just very interesting... But I am excited to see ripple effects this has on recruiting, transfer portal, and assistant coach movement.. all the coaching changes not just A&M

But who is that superstar hire?

Dabo ain’t leaving Clemson. A&M offers him nothing he can’t get already.

Ryan Day’s seat will be warm at Ohio State but they aren’t gonna run him off for being on a 3 game losing streak to Michigan. He’s also a culture clashing hire as well.

A&M wants that home run hire that is sexy like they did with Jimbo but there simply isn’t a splash hire there.

The last two in football that were “shocking” was Riley going to USC, who everyone thought he was going to LSU, and Kelly who bolted from ND to go to LSU.

Elko would have been a hire with more upside IMO. Plus he has connections with Texas high school football.

Didn't say they were going to or should have gotten one - just that their fans wanted/expected one. I think their hope about Day was that he would leave Ohio St to go to A&M, not be fired. Man, talk about trading one set of unreasonable fans for another.

I think their fans were holding out hope that a brand name coach was available who wasn't publicly suspected/known to be available, like the Brian Kelly to LSU hire was.

Elko would have been the culture hire.

Much like had we hired Cutcliffe after Kiffin left. Not the type of coach we would aim for out the gate but checks the boxes of somewhat successful coaching career and has previous experience at said school.

A&M hiring the head coach of Duke would have more to do with the previous experience at A&M than making the splash / sexy hire those Neanderthals think they can buy.

Yeah i agree. Looking back, it’s wild LSU was able to go from thinking they had Riley to panicking and successfully hiring Kelly. All in the matter of days.

Based on my time on their boards they would have accepted an Elko hire. Way more than this.

Maybe A&M should stop trying to out-Texas Texas. They have an inferiority complex with them, and think that the path to the top is to look at whatever they do and 3x it. Maybe they really do need a more developmental-type coach like Stoops.
