Middle Tennessee St has parted with Rick Stockstill
Nobody really cares because it's MTSU, but they've missed a huge opportunity over the last 10-15 years because they were OK with Stockstill's mediocrity. That guy has not done a good job there at all despite being at a school where he should be able to be pretty competitive in-conference; MTSU should not be a middling school in the conferences they've played in.

Don't know if they still are, but at one time they were the largest enrollment in the state. Huge alumni base. I agree they should have been better all along in conference.

And they are in good recruiting territory relative to most other schools in the 2 conference they've played in.

Stockstill only won a single conference title in 18 years, the very first season he got there. I know MTSU isn't some microscope, high pressure job but I'm surprised he lasted that long there. 18 years is an eternity for any coach this day and age, especially one who went 113-111.

Definitely baffling. They should be capable of averaging respectfully higher than .500

Talk about falling from grace. THis ole bird never bounced back. I believe Auburn blackballed him.

I was surprised by Syracuse's move. They haven't been a great program and although Dino Babers hasn't blown the doors off and struggled at times, they have been far more relevant under him than they have in decades.

They weren't that bad under Doug Marrone (2009-2012).

Babers stuck around as long as he did there because of the Clemson upset in 2017 and going 10-3 in 2018, which is kind of a while ago now. He only had 2 winning seasons in 8 years.

Whenever I think of Babers I still think of that Clemson upset, which kind of leads you into thinking he was a better there than he actually was. Syracuse definitely isn't a football school, but Babers wasn't all that good there even by their standards.

I thought they were better than that. I think they had hot starts like being undefeated the first half of last year and being in playoff picture and I thought they were ranked some this year. Perhaps I am wrong, I know they usually don't finish the season strong.

If you got 20m buyout that stipulates you need to show attempt to work elsewhere, why not give a discount and just be done?
I’m sure there were some incentives for him to take the deal, I was just curious as to what was in it for him.

I suspect that's a big reason why he stuck around so long. I've heard over the years that he is just a really nice person in a profession infamous for not having them, and he wasn't at a "win at all costs" job so the fact that he was well-liked gave him some job security.

Cue the next coach at TnTech.

He lasted a while at Akron and did a decent to respectable job there, considering just how historically bad that program is. Little Bowden Sr is a snake oil salesman, but he’s not the worst I’ve seen. ULM wasn’t a good fit.

A little on the IU Search & rumors. I live about 45 minutes from Bloomington and I can tell you that NO ONE at IU or the IU fanbase cares at ALL about IU football. There has always been this running joke in the state and it really is true that all IU basketball fans turn into Notre Dame football fans once football season starts. A Bloomington bar was advertising on local media last week that they were giving away 50 tickets to the game at Purdue and they posted late Saturday that they only gave away 3. Now this is IU's biggest game of the year and no one cared at all. Their stadium is awful and is honestly covered in bird s%hit on gamedays, it's nasty. I can't see Cuban going out and spending a ton of $ on Gruden or why Gruden would have any interest. IU football program is already in the bottom of the B1G on tradition, facilities and fan base, the will NEVER be able to compete with the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Iowa, Wisconsin or hell even the likes of Nebraska or Michigan State and now add USC, Oregon and Washington.

I haven’t heard anything, but I’m going to make a prediction that Clark Lea is fired in the next few days…….

He had a really good upward trajectory and could have followed daddy's footsteps, but the Auburn affair shut him down. He was rendered to small ball for life while Freeze got redemption. At the time he was a hot commodity. Not sure if it would have lasted even with a clean nose.
