2023 SEC Tournament

@Thunder Good-Oil , which teams get the double bye if UT and UK lose and Mizzou and Vandy win ? 4 way tie for 3rd

In a 4-way tie the records of the 4 versus each other should determine the order.

TN won’t get the double bye.

TN v Missouri: 0-1
TN v UK: 0-2
TN v VU: 1-1

VU v Missouri: 0-1
VU v UK: 1-1
UK v Missouri: 0-1

TN: 1-4
KY: 3-2
VU: 2-3
Mizz: 3-0

So if I’d calculated correctly, KY and Mizz get the double byes.

You the man. So just win, baby. Plus, it will throw another shovel full of dirt on Auburn's NCAA Tournament chances/grave

TN can lose as long as Missouri also loses and KY wins. VU can win and if in a 2-way tie with TN, TN takes the tie breaker having beaten Bama. But KY has to win as well. A 3-way tie with anybody and TN is the lowest seed of the group.

If TN wins, they get a double bye.

If TN loses, Mizz loses, VU wins, and KY wins then TN gets a double bye.

TN does not get a double bye if TN loses and Mizz wins.

TN does not get a double bye in any 3-way or the 4-way tie scenarios.

This is why I’m worried. At Auburn. Pressing team and we have no true PG. We don’t do well historically against Pearl. And they’re desperate. This doesn’t set up well.

Hopefully Bruce pissed off the refs instead of intimidated them into giving him special treatment today.

TN plays 3pm Thursday and 3pm Friday if they beat USCe/Ole Miss on Thursday. Mizz has the winner of TN v USCe/OM. Eastern times. First games begin at 1pm so the actual starting times will probably be close to 3:30pm eastern time.

I would be shocked if Tennessee made it past Missouri in all honesty

This team just doesn't give me a good feeling. Losing ZZ this late in the year on top of a team with no offensive identity screams bad news.

We are going to really need to clamp down on defense and keep these games down to like 40

I'd have Santi, JJJ, and ON on a pitch count (25-28 minutes a piece).

Get Mashack, Aidoo, Awaka, Phillips and Edwards as many minutes as you can. Not sure if we'll get Ole Miss or South Carolina, but I think both are teams you can beat without those main 3 seniors playing 32+ minutes.

While I normally wouldn’t disagree this team has played very few minutes without ZZ running PG, and very few minutes totally healthy outside of ZZ. I would probably play my main guys whatever minutes it took to try and get a win and hopefully a comfortable lead, at which point then I’d pull them. Unfortunately this team needs every second together they can get right now imo, I get the idea of saving them but if you’re rolling rotations out in the first round that haven’t played much together then what was the point of saving them.

Per the Mike Strange column in the Shopper News segment of today's News Sentinel, Tennessee is 2-6 against Mississippi and 3-2 against South Carolina in the SEC Tournament.

Missouri and Tennessee have never played each other in the SEC Tournament.

Barnes is 10-5 with an SEC Championship.

DeVoe was 9-10 with an SEC Championship.

Houston was 5-5.

Pearl was 6-6.

Green and Peterson were 2-3.

Martin was 2-4.

O' Neill and Tyndall won 1 game each in the tournament.

Great statistical column.

True, but essentially if you play the first 25-28 minutes well with the guys mentioned then you should have a pretty comfortable lead going into the last 10-12 minutes.

And other than Edwards we've seen rotations with all those guys playing together. Obviously don't send out a Uros, Aidoo, Awaka, Mashack, Edwards lineup...but keep an eye on how many minutes you can steal for the other guys you'd like to have as healthy as possible going into the big tournament.

I'd say most people think we're a 3 or 4 seed. Realistically what are the chances we jump to a 2 seed or drop to a 5 seed?

Is there such a thing as a comfortable lead with 10-12 minutes?

Two sides to that theory. They need the work. But that also potentially gives future opponents a preview of how to best defend the revamped lineup.

This wouldn’t be a bad time to totally change up the offensive approach. But since this year the philosophy starts with defense, little is likely to change. The focus is going to continue to get stops first.

Barnes get closer to his preference of being able to switch on every screen. They can almost do that with Uros sitting. ZZ could only defend 2 or 3 players consistently well. But I wouldn’t want to see ON or Awaka switch up and be on a small, quick guard that can shoot. At least Aidoo can give them lots of space and still be able to affect outside shots or trail them into the paint and swat away shots at the rim.

I kind of like our chances better in the NCAAT relative to the SECT. We might be able to out talent 2 opening week opponents and in the regionals play the underdog role. Plus the deeper they go, the less the refs are calling the ticky tack touch fouls. We can’t afford to have SV, JJJ, JP, or JM sitting down in foul trouble.
