2023 Transfer Portal - General NCAA Thread

I think both are more aggressive than Aidoo and could be better offensive and defensive. We don’t block many shots around the goal without fouling and giving up 3 point plays. On the other hand, we get a lot of shots blocked inside and do not shoot a lot of free throws. Thr 5 position has been our weakest position followed by the 1 position. These 2 position have proven to be the keys go winning championships. While we have the reputation of having great defenses, we often struggle to score points if we don’t hit close to 40% of our shot behind the line. We need some short term help from the portal.
I feel like Aidoo is a very solid rim protector JMO

Guess I’d be disappointed if he had chosen Kentucky, Bama, Auburn or another program of our level. Choosing a mid major makes me think he didn’t desire to compete at the highest level . JMO

He followed his old coach. I think BTO and I both think there is some known baggage. I’m speculating, but it could be grades or something else. Otherwise making that choice on a dime doesn’t make a lot of sense.

So maybe he desired to compete the highest level but maybe there was baggage that kept him from having that opportunity? That would be understandable

This is why I asked a day or so ago about why he missed 10 games, this year. Was it discipline, injury, etc? BTO mentioned he stepped away from the team, which is sometimes discipline disguised as a "personal issues". Without making any definitive speculation, I wondered if there were potentially some red flags related to his decision to leave the team during the season.

"Obviously transfer portal season is heating up. We’ll know more about who Tennessee is seriously interested in in the coming weeks, but for now we can say that the Vols have already reached out to Wofford transfer B.J. Mack."

Don’t know much about him, but based on that description of “undersized and doesn’t take care of the basketball” I wouldn’t exactly be making him a priority. Again, don’t know much about him so maybe that reporter is being unfair.
He’d have the second best a:to ratio on this years team fwiw, the reporter did specify “sometimes” so not like it’s apparently an often issue.

Jalen Benjamin is listed at 5'10" 160lbs, and he's a sub 3 turnover a game guy for his career and seems to do everything for Mount St. Mary's. One reason why Barnes and staff might be interested is despite being on a bad team, they have been top 100 in points allowed his two seasons there, so he comes from a defensive coach.

BJ Mack would be a guy I'd be confused if we actually brought him in. 6'8" and listed at 245lbs, but looks heavier. Seems like a DJ Burns. Now if he could be a 16/8 guy then absolutely a take, but not sure if he can do that in the SEC or not.

I like Jalen Benjamin. Think he would be a solid addition. Also, all of you complaining about signing mid majors not working. I agree about certain guys like the big we got a couple years ago, but Tyreke Key on the season has averaged 8.5ppg and has been decent but he’s been inconsistent. I will say though when a guy who carry’s a team, in Indiana State, comes to a place like Tennessee where he’s asked to be more of a facilitator that’s a big change. Much bigger than most act like it is. I would love to see him keep averaging 10ppg in the tourney to help us get past Duke.
