2023 Transfer Portal - General NCAA Thread

I was looking forward to Uros taking a shot at Edey. It would have been a good tryout for him to take his COVID waiver year at TN.

His offense certainly picked up in his late appearances, he took up a lot of space setting screens on the perimeter (and had cut down on the moving screen fouls).

As far as rebounding - they don’t record rebound assists. So if he was boxing out his assignment and rebounds fell into teammates’ hands then he did his job. I’d like to see the stats that expose who gives up offensive rebounds to opponents.

It is pretty sad that hitting close to 60% of his free throws would be a huge bonus for UP. I wonder if he’s the only regular in 35 years to never attempt a 3-pointer over a career?

He had some moments, but I think it's time to move on. Surely we csn find someone better?

Maybe more talented and/or potential upside, but 4 years of experience in the system AND being a 7 footer isn’t something that is easily replaced. What happens if TN faces an experienced 7 footer and Aidoo gets into foul trouble? Awaka will struggle to guard somebody a half foot taller and the other options will be true freshmen. Uros would have never pulled a start if the staff had anything close to the hate for him that VN posters have.

There's a difference between hate and being honest. I don't hate him he caused us a lot of games with his emotions but won us a couple here and there.

Grant was able to do well against 7 footers and he was ubersized

Give me the kid from Harvard

Mizzou developing into a decent program. If they get this guy and love, they will again be a tough matchup next year for sure.

Missouri will be a team to watch out for

First season head coach and he had his team balling

SEC is loaded with talent

Only coach's that I don't believe should be in this league are Mike awhite and Paris at USC. Florida HC is in this group too,l

I support Barnes 100% also but i cant figure out why he is so highly regarded amongst the knowledgeable people in the basketball world but he never seems to land the big fish. He needs a new fishing pole.
Bad take.

He’s a phenomenal recruiter. Bad transfer recruiting, probably due to limited effort.

We could craft a specific hypothetical for keeping any of the seniors, though. They all CAN bring something that is tough to replace, and yes, Uros is probably the most unique of the bunch. It's not unreasonable to think we could replace him with someone who brings more consistency, more upside, and less emotional volatility that lends itself to at least one stupid, undisciplined decision per game.

I think that it is much easier to get Uros to adjust his on court attitude than it is to replace his 4 years in the system with a transfer that won’t even be on campus for a couple more months needing to learn the system from the ground up.

More importantly than easing up with the thuggish perception, I think that Uros needs to adjust that abysmal free throw line performance. I’ve never seen a TN player struggle more than he does.

And again, Uros does the things very well that don’t hit the stat line. Setting a screen on the perimeter without being called for fouls doesn’t load up his stat sheet, but it is very important that he does that well. He also has good hands as an outlet at the high post. He has a lot of touches without turnovers. Even the tip off potentially gains a possession (which is very important when both teams might only have 20 made field goals in a defensive oriented game). I don’t know where to find that seat, but Uros won most of his opening tips and Aidoo lost most of his.

Another possible argument for keeping Uros, if a two year transfer is added instead of Uros then we have zero spots opening up in the next cycle. I don’t think that it is ever a good look to push players with eligibility out to find space.

If we don't have a replacement for uros, tell him to stay if we get someone coming in, move on

Unfortunately it's a business. He would be like a 5 year senior or something, wouldn't be frowned upon by others

I agree, replacing him is hard, but changing the behavior of a 25 year old is just as hard, if not harder. If it were easily changed, it would have been changed by now. Another offseason isn't going to make a difference. Barnes even called him out publicly and reduced his minutes mid-season for his antics and it made no difference in the most important game of the season in March.

I also disagree with his ability to set pucks without fouling. He seemingly gets nailed for a moving screen every game, sometimes twice.

Winning the tip is overrated. The possession is won back on a tie up or at the half. It's like a kickoff in football where almost every team defers to the second half. It's much easier to steal a possession at the end of a half by playing 2 for 1 with the shot clock.

In the end, I wouldn't be opposed to keeping Uros if I had faith that he'd cool it with the antics and improve the FT%, like you mentioned. I just don't have that faith and feel like he isn't a good enough rebounder for his size to make me a believer that an additional year of him is worth passing on someone else's potential in the portal. I'm not in favor of replacing with any bum out there, but someone who brings similar qualities, a stronger FT%, and greater upside shouldn't be impossible to find.

My kids and I have been listening to the one fly we all fly podcasts with basketVols, and in his episode, Uros talks quite a bit about how sad he's going to be when it comes time to leave UT. These were recorded toward the end of the season, so doesn't sound like he's ready to move on. I'd imagine he's waiting to hear about what happens with roster spots.

I thought that Uros elevated his game this year. He wasn’t losing the ball nearly as often by dribbling or bringing the ball low for guards to take it away from him in the paint. He certainly improved at a coring more consistently near the rim.

Rebounding is as much horizontal as it is vertical. If his assignment isn’t grabbing offensive boards then Uros is doing his job and not getting credit in the box score.

Uros isn’t foul free setting picks, but when he sets 4 or 5 on every possession he will get the occasional foul.

And he’s very competent when handling the ball at the high post.

It would need to be a very good transfer for me to want to replace UP. And I doubt that many exist. Probably none with his size. Olivier is one of the highest rated posts in the portal.

Wonder if those two PGs from the NIT will enter the portal, forgot all about those dudes.

Perry and Walker, shew.

A great thing about Uros, he’ll never be a cancer in the locker room if he has to sit down for a long stretch of games. One selfish, bad attitude could poison the entire team.

Barnes teams tend to hold it together and keep results at the historical W-L pace even when adversity hits. TN had a Sweet 16 even after an irreplaceable piece was lost at the end of the regular season.

Guys my biggest wants in the transfer portal are Keyon Menifield Jr and Chris ledlum

Keyon Menifield Jr Is an absolute BALLER

McCollum/Ledlum, personally, but I’d be stocked with Menifield though, seems like Louis and Bama may be the teams to watch according to Andrew Slater

Hopefully Tylor Perry from North Texas enters the portal, kid is a studdddd
