2023 Transfer Portal - General NCAA Thread

I was going to say we should take a look at Elijah Hawkins from Howard if we were to lose out on all of our targets, but damn that 4.0 turnovers per game is asssss

12.9 ppg
3.6 rpg
6.0 apg (11th in the nation)
44% FG
46% 3PT (166 attempted)
1.7 spg

Played against some decent competition
- Kansas, Harvard, FIU, VCU, Belmont, Buffalo, Wyoming, GW, Kentucky.

Kansas: 12 points, 5/11 shooting, 2 rebounds, 8 assist, 2 steals, but damn 7 turnovers

Harvard: 9 points, 3/7 shooting, 7 rebounds, 5 assist, 3 steals, again 7 turnovers

FIU: 13 points, 5/8 shooting, 6 rebounds, 4 assist, 2 steals, 3 turnovers

VCU: 3 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 steal, 5 turnovers

Belmont: 15 points, 4/8 shooting, 1 rebound, 5 assist, 1 steal, 3 turnovers

Buffalo: 12 points, 4/10 shooting, 3 rebounds, 4 assist, 3 steals, 6 turnovers

Wyoming: 17 points, 7/13 shooting, 3 rebounds, 6 assist, 4 turnovers

JMU: 18 points, 8/13 shooting, 3 rebounds, 8 assist, 2 steals, 3 turnovers

Kentucky: 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 steal, 4 turnovers

I’m aware most of the teams aren’t “decent” I was just putting the bigger schools from the schedule

I still don’t think it’s a priority position but I’d pursue this guy over Knecht

Like him a lot.

played 2 years, 6'7" 200lbs has played a total of 59 career games averaging 30 mpg. 44.8% FG 28.7% 3PT (career, but was 35% this past season) his FT% is bad though at 62.4% he rebounds very well 6.0 pg for his career and 7.4 pg last season. He can also score 12.7 ppg for his career and 13.8 this past season was the 22nd rated guy per RSCI Top 100 in his 2021 class.

Wonder if we're going to talk to Quante Berry (as a PWO perhaps?)

6'3" PG out of Cleveland TN originally went to Providence and looks to have redshirted and is now in the portal. Was a 3 star outta HS with some solid offers.

Javon Small is another PG I'm curious if we'll talk to
6'2" out of South Bend IN, played 2 years at East Carolina, this past season averaged 15.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 5.6 apg, 1.2 spg while shooting 39.7% FG, 33.3% 3PT and 85.4% FT

I like Small's stats. I'm curious why he is transferring. If it was because of a clash with Schwartz, it might be fair to reason that he wouldn't mesh well with Barnes. And perhaps Barnes wouldn't pursue, regardless, out of respect to Schwartz.

I mean Schwartz didn't recruit him and he did at least stay for a season to see if it would work.

He did get hurt though and only played in 18 games this year, so that could have an impact. Powell left Auburn because of his treatment once hurt so maybe something similar?

Thats my point. Schwartz didn't recruit him. Did one season there sour Small on that brand of coaching? Just spit-balling because I have no idea why he's leaving. I did see where he was injured mid-season.

Honestly no idea, Small is visiting Ohio State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State so it's not even like a top brand of basketball school is after him... (I guess maybe Ohio State is a pretty big brand)

Had he entered last year he wouldn't be getting pursued. As a freshmen he only played 16 games and averaged under 10mpg, this year under Schwartz he got way more minutes and his value has greatly climbed because of it so it seems like he's trying to cash in on that. He's only played 2 seasons and could pursue a medical to get one back, so he'll have 2 or 3 years of eligibility left whereas if he waited another season he might not be as hot of a name with less eligibility, but that's also me just spit-balling.

People shouldn't be upset though if we were to end up with someone like Jordan Gainey

Not a big name but he's a baller, just under the radar.

15 ppg 35% from three

Tennessee would be fortunate to get him
