2023 Transfer Portal - General NCAA Thread

Arkansas just got their 4th portal addition in Cincinnatis Jeremiah Davenport. Crazy how Muss does the portal. I wouldn’t like having basically a new roster every year like they do.

Sounds like Muss is targeting Tylor Perry and then a big man to close things out but for that to happen someone will need to leave. My guess is the other Mitchell twin.

If y’all get Edwards I swear to god I’ll **** all over y’all’s court.

Kind of weird that only one of the Mitchell twins have hit the portal honestly. They are usually a package pair lol

I am pretty sure the other will be hitting the portal in the next day or so. Somehow Musselman seems to be convincing his players to time their announcements strategically...both for the portal and NBA draft. Either that or he convinces them to time their announcements for the NBA draft and pushes them to the portal.

Kentucky and Duke both have the potential to have really good teams next year. The talent level is full of what appear to be future NBA players. I guess that does not necessarily translate to NCAA championships but they will sure look the part on paper.

Basilio's Blog this morning:

"Some heavyweights came after Jonas Aidoo to transfer but looks like the UT basketball program has weathered that storm. As The Dean has documented this week, there is growing optimism on Vesco coming back. That's big. No surprise that the outlook on Julian Phillips returning continues to be negative, if not hopeless. Rick Barnes and staff are struggling with the transfer portal for the second straight year, as far as getting incoming difference-makers. So much so that Triple J may be welcomed back. Assuming ZZ bounces back from the ACL and Vesco comes back, this will be a top 25 team that will make the NCAA tourney pretty easily. That's what Barnes does. BTW, there was another "Freddie Dilione will transform the offense" story this week, this one from Mike Wilson of the News-Sentinel." - Orange Throat

Dalton Knecht Update:

The Northern Colorado wing is one of the most highly coveted players in the current transfer class. He's currently being crystal balled to Oregon who figure to be major players in the portal. Yet Knecht decided to come see Knoxville this weekend after a zoom call a few nights back. The 6-6 small forward averaged 20 per game. Is Tennessee going to land the plane with a guy that could be expensive? As I wrote earlier in the week, I wouldn't count on it but he's coming here after visiting Oregon earlier in the week. Knecht would be a tremendous addition. He's regarded as the #1 strong forward in the portal. As I wrote a few days ago here, Knecht would be amazing in Knoxville but don't get your hopes up.

Chris Ledlum Harvard Forward Is Coming To Town. This is another example of a guy being crystal balled elsewhere yet visiting this weekend. The belief is that he's Indiana bound after visiting with the Hoosiers last weekend. The Staten Island native is being sold on Tennessee by Grant Williams who's formed a relationship with Ledlum in Boston. Harvard is of course located in that city and Grant Williams had the grades to attend an Ivy League school. So, he can speak the language to Ledlum in more ways than one. The 6-6 215-pound forward is a guy that Tennessee insists they're in pretty good shape with behind the scenes. This one could get interesting to watch. I've learned never to count Grant Williams out when he gets involved with players. Triple J what's up???

Kinda weird that we’re hosting two guys with one spot at the same time right? Could we possibly be selling each one on playing together with Phillips potentially going elsewhere?

Idk I get the feeling JJJ may be coming back. I could be wrong but his tweet is just so similar to the one he sent out last year before deciding to return. So, you get everyone back, including JJJ, and Phillips does decide to transfer. You have 1 open spot. So then we end up choosing between Ledlum and Knecht after their visits if they both want in? I like both guys personally but I prefer Knecht because he’s a knockdown 3 point shooter. Then again JJJ could choose to move on, and in which case we can take both guys! I honestly don’t know what I would prefer. JJJ 100% healthy is probably better than Ledlum and maybe even Knecht, but can he get healthy is the question. I see us taking both Ledlum and Knecht after this weekend if both decide they like our program best.

I think we get both this weekend tbh

I think it's a marketing thing, spacing things out so that there is news about the program each day. He's ridiculously detailed with that crap.

Edwards is obviously out so most rumors are around Moussa Cisse or Grant Nelson from NDSU (who hasn't actually entered the portal yet lol). The past few years it seems like Muss has had trouble attracting interest from bigs like he has with guards.

Congrats on getting Perry to campus today

Something needs to be done by the NCAA to address the “heavy weights coming after” guys who are not in the portal if indeed there’s any truth to the above statement

Barnes backed off Collins last yr after the coach threatened to go to NC2A.

Nothing has materialized but surely Barnes would comment if Aidoo came close to leaving. Players across the country know one another and talk, but we all know it’s staff and/or boosters contacting kids @ other schools.

Get familiar with Jordan Gainey

Just the player we needed

A scoring threat and 3 point shooter
As I said earlier, it's Gainey and maybe one of Ledlum or Kecht. That's it for the portal. If either of those two don't fall our way, Barnes might ask JJJ back. Hell, why bother? Pretty clear the portal and Barnes are oil/water. Save the money for football and baseball.

I think we get both Knecht and Ledlum

The weird thing with all of this is that Ledlum and Knect are a great haul. I think Knect is one of the higher ceiling guys in the portal period and I’m very excited at the possibility of getting him. This is typically a grand slam, especially when you consider getting a guy like Gainey to walk on. I’m just so puzzled that we seemingly passed on a PG. I can’t begin to wrap my head around it.

Looks like Tony needs to get a better editor. What the hell is a “strong forward”? Lol. Think he meant “small” forward.

I never listen to this Basillo guy but he stating neither Knecht or Ledlum will come here what a Debbie Downer he as bad as the fishing guy on Sport Source

I tend to agree. I think when we get guys on campus it’s hard for them to say no
I hope so. Both would give us alot of versatility on offense and 2 guys who can create on their own when needed. Unfortunate not to have a PG in event ZZ isn’t fully recovered but Ledlum and Knecht would be excellent.
