I’d bet Trump thinks he already has it wrapped up. Biden’s mental issues are finally being talked about, Democrats fighting internally about who their nominee should be very late in the game, and he survived an assassination attempt.

I think it is more about perceived personal loyalty to him than picking up a demographic. Vance is young and a relative political novice (perhaps more impressionable) and his rhetoric is pretty much a carbon copy of Trump's.

Youngkin should have been the pick, IMO. Has appeal outside of the stereotypical Trump voter and would give him a much better shot at winning Virginia, which has gone consistently blue. As you said Vance doesn't help appeal to a broader demo, and Ohio isn't really a swing state anymore.

Warming up to it myself. Blue collar raised, Marine and lawyer. 40 years between Trump and JD helps transition to younger Republicans.
