The answer to my question is ZERO. The presumptive nominee, Hubert Humphrey, did not compete in any primaries in 1968 and due to Robert Kennedy's murder in June, nobody had enough delegates to garner the nomination. Humphrey owed his nomination entirely to party bosses who controlled Robert Kennedy's delegates. This would not be unprecedented at all.

I argued that there is nothing wrong with allowing Biden to simply be a figurehead with no responsibility for 6 months. In reality, that is likely what he has already been for at least 2 years anyway. He is seldom seen. Never conducts press conferences or meets with world leaders outside of NATO.
